We used to play ALOT of gigs at the local Air Force Base. This was back in the late 80's early 90's, and the B-52s were all the rage. What did we do? We came up with a ten minute version of "Love Shack" - complete with no less than 3 "TIN ROOF...RUSTED breaks. Learned "Roam", "Channel Z", "Private Idaho", "Rock Lobster", bunch of REM, etc... We ditched the ZZ Top, Skynnyrd, and the like.

We became essentially the "House" band, since there was a new class of pilots graduating every six weeks. Since about 25% of every class ending up staying at the base as training pilots, we quickly formed a following around town. They would come to the clubs to see us between shows at the base. It was a great ride for a few of years.

I guess what I'm saying is you are supposed to be an entertainer, give the people what they want and you will be rewarded. Piss 'em off and you'll get nothing.

Quit'cha bitchin'. It's a privilege to play for the armed forces. Be grateful for the opportunity to serve in your own way (which is a far smaller and safer way to serve than they do), and do whatever you can to play whatever they ask. I bet they woulda been more understanding if you started your set off by thanking them for their sacrifice.

...But that's jus' me...
