We used to play
ALOT of gigs at the local Air Force Base. This was back in the late 80's early 90's, and the B-52s were all the rage. What did we do? We came up with a ten minute version of "Love Shack" - complete with no less than 3
"TIN ROOF...RUSTED breaks. Learned "Roam", "Channel Z", "Private Idaho", "Rock Lobster", bunch of REM, etc... We ditched the ZZ Top, Skynnyrd, and the like.
We became essentially the "House" band, since there was a new class of pilots graduating every six weeks. Since about 25% of every class ending up staying at the base as training pilots, we quickly formed a following around town. They would come to the clubs to see us between shows at the base. It was a great ride for a few of years.
I guess what I'm saying is you are supposed to be an entertainer, give the people what they want and you will be rewarded. Piss 'em off and you'll get nothing.
