downwardly sloped glass-rack disaster

Sign in to disble this ad
my band played a bar last night where the wine-glass racks above the bar were slightly sloped downwards (we determined this later). we really weren't playing very loud, but the bass was shaking wine glasses down the racks and ejecting them out onto the floor, to smash and shatter. this kept happening when the bartender was in the back, so he couldn't figure out what was going on, and i couldn't exactly stop playing. i tried adjusting my bass knob on the fly, but it didn't seem to matter. might have been a harmonic in something we were playing. a row of wine glasses eventually popped out, one by one like little lemmings... and all i could do was watch, laugh to myself and play in higher octaves...

anyone had this experience?

It was more likely the kick drum than the bass.

could be...

they blamed the bass for it, but could've been the kick.

Yeah - couldn't possibly be whoever installed the rack.

FWIW I've been known to rattle my tuner off the top of the amp a few times.

Remember the first series of Eden Nemesis combos? They were so light that they travelled on stage.

Ha! It is kinda funny . . . and TOTALLY not your fault even if it WAS the bass.

I did a session once where my amp actually rattled the live room window to within an inch of popping out of it's frame. . . woopsy

Yep. Explained in detail on another thread, but suffice it to say I wasn't so lucky: both the barkeep and the club owner were standing right at the bar when it happened

Unmistakably me and my dinky Acoustic 136 combo - 100 solid-state watts into a single 15". First low E = CRASH! Tried rolling off all the lows after the first glass bit the dust, and it barely made a difference. Second glass prompted my (our...) final warning: turn down or load out

Spent the rest of the night sounding like I was playing through one of these

We played a gig at a bar where our gear was set up by the window under the neon lights. During a breakdown a huge Budweiser sign came down on the outlets where the bass, rhythm guitar, and PA were all plugged into. It took 5 guys to lift that heavy ass thing to get it out of the way (including me and the guitar player, still wearing our instruments) so we could plug back in. The lead guitar player and the drummer kept playing though and we were able to jump back in before the song ended.

I played a gig where they had a glass fronted case full of wine bottles probably 30 or 40 feet away from the stage. Nothing crashed and burned as a result of the doors being secured, but all the bottles on one shelf were leaning against the glass door when we were loading out.

I would have stuck around for as long as it takes for some unsuspecting waiter to open that case.

That's a good point. Now that you mention it, how the heck did they get that thing open??
