DR dropped by to share vids

But as promised, here are the videos from late July. Y'all had a pretty good dog pile on that post, and some of you thought you were so clever digging up two-year-old videos. Well, consider those the "before" pictures and these new clips as the "after"--as I mentioned, we upped our game, chose some better songs, and grew as a band.

I think it's a pretty good set. This was the 3rd of 4 sets. The temp hit about 108degF earlier in the day, and was still around 100. That concrete stage is in the sun all day, and was still radiating heat. About halfway through this set, the weather finally broke--you can see the breeze come up--and it cooled-off a bit, though everything got really sticky. The patio was set-up kinda weird this night. There was a row of tables in front of the stage, so most of the dancing was behind that, or off stage-right, where there's another section with more room (that you'll see me playing to off the side of the stage). When enough people were dancing, it would spill out in front of the stage. But I think you can tell folks were having a good time, despite the heat.

I did the editing myself from three cameras. The audio was recorded separately from out on one of the tables, so that is the real sound you get if you're setting there, not a remix off the board or anything. This was my first time editing video, so there are a couple of synch issues on a couple of the tracks as I was learning the software, but they're minor and don't reflect any underhanded editing. WYSIWYG. This is the real show, with a couple of flubbed notes and missed cues and all. Two of the songs were first-time-out, and this was my first show with my Moog pedals, so I was new at that (and put the durn things in a shadow so I couldn't see them!). Yeah, really: bass playing while playing the pedals and singing at the same time. I'm not all talk.

And, hey, we're just a weekend warrior band. We rehearse once a week. We gig a couple of time a month (though we have 4 of 5 weeks booked starting in September, and we were booked for NYE last April). Most of us have other occupations and families, so it's not like we're full time pros. But I think it's a damn good act for what it is, and you'd be hard-pressed to find a better time for a $5 cover.

Kinda lo-rez on YT. I'd consider sending the full HD DVD to any nice PMs that ask for it.

So, enjoy the show. See ya in the Entertainment listings.

Only listened to "Bad case of loving you" Breakup Song" and "Love Shack"

Are you not doing the original bass lines on purpose?

Curious why not? Just listened to Love Shack, its got a great bassline, you're simplifying it too much and losing the groove, its the signature piece of the song, practically the whole song is based on it, and its not that hard.... Could be because you're trying to sing it too? That would be a hard one to do both on. The groove makes the song, it's worth working it out.

Bad Case has a really cool bass riff in it that you left out, that one is hard to zoom up and hit, so I was going to let that slide until I heard Love Shack... At least I do understand not doing that one part in Bad Case...

Breakup song is pretty close, when it switches from 8ths on the A, and goes to the 2nd half of a verse, leave out the B when going from the A to the C, and make sure you get the syncopation right, that's the cool part of the bass line, emphasizing the B on the beat when getting to the C off the beat takes away from the groove. You should emphasize the C off the beat to get the groove right.... Otherwise that one sounds pretty good. Just so you know I'm not busting your chops...

Think of it as constructive criticism... that's the spirit I'm intending it...

Nice video work too, if there were sync issues, I didn't notice them...

Randy

I like the band, mostly the singers though, would come to see you probably

don't dig the lyric stand one of the singers has

anyway, I still fail to see how this warranted the boastful behavior in the other thread with the firing of 2 other bass-players and your stage moves etc. etc. even if this is an "after" video

i think your "video redemption" would have more impact if it came without all the caveats.

Did Youtube slow everything down, or was that the speed you performed at? One of the most floor filling songs, Love Shack, was so slow that I couldn't dance to it. And I'll dance to anything with enough drinks.

Great vids though.

i don't get it. you're a decent bassist. nothing spectacular though. you're not even amazing in a "hold down the groove, in service of the song" kind of way.

why all the ego? glad you enjoy yourself, and posting videos like that without the weird douchebaggy statements/boasts you might even get some positive responses. or at least some constructive advice.

i'm a little puzzled.

I wish I knew what was going on here..?..
Is this a continuation of something I'm not allowed to know about?

Anyway, Not knowing what happened before this thread, and based solely on the videos...(I didnt watch them all though)

I feel that there is not enough Bass. (maybe it just didnt pick up well?..)

I also feel ...(MY OPINION Rather )Is that the guitar tone is waaay to ..."twangy?"
(again maybe the camera...except i read that what we're viewing is how it was there)

Please, can someone let me know what happened before this thread tho? I feel left out.

Other than that, and based solely on these recordings, My OPINION...is that its..okay.

But reading it again, it almost looks like a revenge post as if to say "take that evil
do-ers"

If that is the case, then I'm REALLY curious to see how this started.

Be careful what you wish for. If those get out, we might all be in trouble. Who can compete with this missing "tandem move" w/ the GP???
