Duke Ellington HS Festival - Lincoln Center. Any TBers?

Sign in to disble this ad
My Alma Mater, Roosevelt High School, Seattle, has placed first at the Duke Ellington Festival at Lincoln Center, NYC.
I barely attended high school at RHS a million years ago, class of 74 1/2. haha
Then the Jazz Choir took first in a lot of festivals. Reno '72, '73 and '74.

Congrats!! They don't have a Jazz Choir anymore, but it's great to see their stage band upholding the tradition!

Also Garfield HS placed! Congrats all around!!

Me at Reno '71 RHS; 1st and Sweepstakes

any TBers participate in this event?

Just a suggestion - wouldn't they likely be Double Bass players - in the DB section?

Mebbe you're right!

When I was participating in these things there were no DBs.
Went to a Festival a couple of years ago and about half of the bands did have DBs.
Times have changed!

Being a BG I auto-posted there
Maybe a mod could move this over to the dark side....

Roosevelt & Garfield HS have always had such great music programs.. always made me jealous, growing up on the eastside where the music programs were mediocre at best.

Heard it on the radio the other day. Second place band had an absolutely killer bass player.

wow..

I remember seeing Roosevelt and Garfield at the Lionel Hampton Jazz fests back when I was in high school. It was ALWAYS a treat to see kids my own age who were that good.

four2oh, which Eastside you mean? Eastside of I-5? or Eastside of the cascades?

Kent-Meridian used to always have a strong jazz program, as did Green River CC.

Back when Garfield didn't even have a jazz program. It was Nathan Hale, Roosevelt and Franklin that were in competitions.

Those were fun times!!
