Stupid Question Time - has anyone ever successfully contacted their C/L admins? A few weeks ago, there was an ad up for a Dean AEB, one of GC's $149 wonders. Dude was asking $300 w/case; I saw that and, breaking my own rule about not posting a 'that's way too expensive' ad, did just that; politely worded and with a link to a GC page with that Dean. Note that in the past, I've seen a LOT of viciously-worded responses here for similar ads. OK, so I put mine up late one night, go to bed, and the next day check CL for any feedback on it. It's gone. Totally removed. Zip zilch nada. Plus, the Dean's price had been altered to $250. OK, whatever...but after a few days, I was curious enough to send CL mail, via the 'contact us' link, describing my ad and saying that I was simply curious in asking what had happened to my post. To this date, I have heard nothing back. The Dean, last time I looked for that ad, was down to $175, tho.

Anyone else had anything like this happen?

Apparently I missed an amazingly hilarious ad on the RI craigslist, I only caught the response.
The reply post called out someone who had been claiming to sell an 18 string Gibson bass for ludicrous money, apparently the pictures were of one of those galveston 4/8 doubleneck basses that sell for a couple hundred all over ebay. Despite my searches the original post must have been removed, I found nothing of it, and later the reply post was deleted as well.

Even adding the 4 and 8 thats only 12 so... hilarity.

Is anyone building a 6/12-str double-neck bass? That's the only thing I can think of that would add up...and it still wouldn't be a Gibson, unless it's some one-off Custom Shop thingy.

I get tired of poor grammar and such and if there's a particularly bad day for the English language on the Chico, Sacramento, or Redding Craigslists I'll go on a passive aggressive rampage. And then get flagged pretty quickly. Sometimes I'll even get an email from one of the sellers (hilarity ensues). I've come to the conclusion that the people trying to get more than their stuff is worth are dumber than the bulk of the readers.

If someone doesn't know about guitars they're more apt to get ripped off by Guitar Center or Musicians friend than some schmuck on CList. When we see a "Squire Getty Lee P-bass American Made - $900" type ad we know what's up, and those who don't probably won't even click on the link with an intent to purchase.

Of the few dumb bastards out there who buy anything outside of the check-out adjacent impulse purchase rack w/out the proper research, I hate to say it but "sucks to be them", they will soon learn their lesson.

Hell if someone can get $900 for a non-existent guitar, then I've got a couple Affinity Ps for $400 a piece.

I have pro gear, pro attitude and am a functioning alcoholic (I drink and still get up in the morning, what my homies call KEEPING IT REAL). I don't give a flying furlong about anything aside from gettin' paid and rocking the chunk out. With that said, I'm looking to join a cover band full of morons who really really care about the music and need a dude who wants to have some fun (and doesn't take themselves too seriously!) We can play some janky VFW or some nonsense, whatever. I just want drink tickets and a stack of USD's. I can play fast, slow or how ever the flying furlong your mom likes it, I keep the damn rhythm and I keep it thumping. So if you want to get together and get enough songs to play for an hour to some dumb townies who could listen to I got friends in low places over and over get at me. I have access to a space, just bring your own stuff because my friends will make fun of me for even trying to start a cover band. STACK PAPER.

For those who need more Wailinsmash, here's a thread from a drummers forum where the man himself shows up. This guy lives in a universe all his own.

I saw a new one posted today.

"great bass....
come play..
and buy my amp too!"

No reference to the brand and the pic, taken from an awkward angle, does not include the headstock.

I reached 1:46, and counted 23 cymbals. I think I saw him use about 3. Perhaps the drummers here can tell me why people would tell me why anybody would do that.

Peavey bass Cab!

Just found this one with a old peavey 215 cab for sale that is sinking into the floor, or possibly cut in half with a chainsaw...... and it was made in the 50's

There is something compelling about a guy drumming and singing. He clearly thinks he is poised for mega success, but if he toned it down a bit with the "I'm so professional it hurts" ethos it could work.

I once formed a one man band which was me screaming half-remembered lyrics whilst drumming crudely and heavily on a mate's kit. His family came and watched for a while and said I should go busking.

Thank you for posting that thread Handyman. Reading his posts really gives you more idea of what this dude's deal is. And it is hilarious.

Well, OK...that's a guy in drag.

...don't think it'll change much tho...

- And editing to say that, after reading the Pearl forum stuff, I like this guy...in a kind of train-wreck fashion, true, but ya gotta admit that he's doing it his way and having fun w/it.

Yea, he seems like some one who is so completely wrapped up in himself, but loves every bit of it anyways, so you can't really hate on some one like that, cause they're like a gerbil or something that just runs around in it's wheel all day, drinks some water, eats some food and ANNIHILATES THE WORLD WITH CYMBALS!!!!!!

I posted an add in CL about me wanting to join a band and a guy called me a couple of hours ago.. The conversation goes likes this..

Quote:
The Guy:Hey are you a rock star?
Me: Ummm.. No.
The Guy: Do you play good.
Me: I can play decently.
The Guy:Are you the best bass player?
Me: Probably not.
The Guy:So are you a rock star?
Me: Nope..
The Guy: So what do you play?
Me: Mainly Jazz.
The Guy: Do you get a lot of calls for Jazz?
The Guy: Ok talk to you later.. I'll call you back..
What do you guys think?
