I was just strolling around flebay this morning and found this:
1974-75 Gibson Grabber Bass neck on Precision body | eBay

I just gotta ask. Why butcher one perfectly good vintage bass, must less two? The action on that thing must be 1/4" or better off the fretboard. Oh the horror!

Thats just wrong... Look at the fit in the neck pocket, seems you could fit a lot in those gaps...

Yeah, I ran across that same bass several months back and started a thread about it. Looks like the kid that bought it is selling it already.

I'd like to have that neck, though...

P body with Grabber neck?

who knows.. when or why it was done..

I once threw together a 60s strat neck.. neck pickup from a 73 tele delexe... bridge from an esquire.. then did some neat scroll saw work with a 60s tele.

All of the parts were considered junk and given to my by an old timer.

I think I got $50 for it when it sold.

harry funny..

I could reply with detail.. I'm sure it would detail this thread into the discussion of why some legends are not legendary.

You'd better hurry, it's up to $15.50.

So I guess that's a Fenderbird in the other direction, then?

Yikes. The thumbrest alone should be grounds for hanging.

I suppose you could salvage that body but you'd have to glue-in a blank where the neck pocket is, and then re-cut the pocket.

I think I spotted a P bass body in the same search that had about six different pickup routes in it. If I recall correctly that jewel was posted here in another thread.
Some of this stuff(IMO) gets to the point where after You take off the few good parts, the leftovers (bodies & necks) would only be usefull as firewood.

Is it just me, or is the action on that thing incredibly high? I swear, I could probably fit my fingers under the strings.

EDIT: Ohhh, and a bonus, I didn't notice the classy "white-out" fret dots on the side there..

On the plus side, you could probably store some snacks in the neck pocket gaps.

I just thought of another use for these trashed bodies......... Grind them into wood dust to produce MDF/particle board, to make low buck cabs. Great business angle, "recycled material" and "vintage tone wood".
