D'OH! - is THAT why the note doesn't change sometimes ??

Shoot - I have done the same thing. Never at a gig though and usually while I was distracted by someone. I toss an old set of strings in my case "just in case" something like this happens at a gig. As they say in the old country - "Oops!"

Yeah same here. Have not broken a string, though.

That's why I got a headless bass. No tuners to worry about!

Because you makes you pause and think about how this story is only about a small personal mistake and sharing it with the world only makes the OP look like a chump.

Dats why!

The only reason I visit TB is to see who else is struggling with tuning their instruments!

...

...

Sadly nowadays it seems people struggle to tune them to standard tuning

One private gig the keyboard got transposed up a fourth because part of the requirement for the show was that the guest of honor got to play a Michael Buble song to his wife (anniversary party). There had been someone playing along on my bass and apparently they transposed the keys because the sheet music was written for a 5 string bass and I play 4 bangers. I went to tune up before our first set and they keys were way out. Figured keys are digital so they're not going to fall out of tune and started tuning to them when "SNAP!" Broke a low E at 5 on a Sunday afternoon with no backup available. I managed to pull a string off of a bass I had sitting at my house that hadn't been used for several years.

This thread is epic fail. For his next thread, OP will post: "I was hitting on a chick at this gig and she looked so hot but then turned around and it was my mom LOLZ that was brutal!"

Won't work. You have weld the tuners to stop them moving.
