1968 Fender Precision fretless

Bought it used from Betnun Music in Hollywood, CA in 1972 for $125
As a novice I had no appreciation for the awesome tone and fingerboard
Was stranded in Tucson, AZ in 1974 and sold it to a mom & pop music store for $90

Please do not reply and tell me it is now super rare or worth thousands, it still pains me to think about my first P-bass.
BTW, that is not me or the bass, pictures got lost also.

My first "real" bass back in the late 80's was a dead-mint all maple Gibson Ripper. At the time I thought it sucked because it didn't do metal well (thru a Fender SS 100 watt 3x12 stack). Sold it and bought a BC Rich Platinum Series Warlock. It actually sounded pretty good, but not quite the same thing. I later ended up with a 1st Run "BC RICO" twin-P Eagle and used it for several years. Sold it in a fit of depression in 2006 after a big bout of tendonitis.

I had a wonderful Guild tube combo amp that had the greatest tone. It wasn't loud enough to gig with, but it was always a joy to plug into.

Bought a 1974 fretless P in about '75 or '76 - it was my only bass on the road and 6 nights/week for nearly 20 yrs - later I added a 75 J bass blonde w/blocks

1993 or so I HAD to have a new Ken Smith (Burner was all I could hope for) so, I sell the P & the J together for $1400 I think (what an idiot) and I get the Smith

15yrs later I'm scanning eBay and saw the P about 100 miles away - so, I got it back for the same $700 I sold it for and the seller even delivered

Guess I've been lucky so far, I dont have sellers remorse on any gear I've sold or traded. That includes a killer Stingray 5, an Aguilar DB750 amp and GS 412 cab, a beautiful G&L 2500 tribute and misc pedals.
I'm in the process of down sizing my studio and getting rid of a lot of gear that I'm sure I will miss (Bergantino cab, thunderfunk head, blackstar guitar head, b52 4x12 cab, reverend 5L bass, and lots more). PM me if you see something in my profile that looks interesting.

Nothing even close to much of what's already posted, but this nevertheless:

(keep in mind this was all pre-internet days, so the only information I had was local "experts")

Peavey Mark IV head with footswitch: great amp, very versatile and rather lightweight.
Traded away while heavily under the influence of those people promoting 'smiley face' EQ.
Paid $200 for it used.

I ran that head through an almost mint Yamaha S215 cabinet.
Nice cab but heavy.
Bought for $250, sold for $300.

1971 Tele bass (single coil), originally white but refished in a satin clear.
Loved the look, but the neck was a 2X4 with the edges only slightly rounded and had a bit of a twist.
Tough to play and suffered from poor EQ choices(same time frame as the aforementioned amp).
Paid $550 for it, traded for a very nice 1990s MIJ P bass.

A couple of early 1970s Bassman 50 watt heads, one blackface and one silver.
The blackface needed new caps and a transformer, while the silver was very noisy and thin sounding.
Purchased both (very used) for $75 each, sold the silver for $100, and gave away the black to a good friend.
To be honest they sucked as bass heads, but produced a really nice Hendrix tone when used for guitar.
I never knew they'd be considered valuable some day.
Found out that the cabinets are solid wood, not plywood. The silver was stripped and finished in clear by the guy I sold it to, turned out really nice.

To judge the difficulty I was having regarding EQ, try running a Rick bass through a mid scooped amp and competing with a moderately loud guitar and drums and you'll get what I mean.

My first "real rig" was a Sunn Colisium 300. Man, I think about that beast every time i plug in. Loud, killer tone, head room for days. I've had 3 rigs since and still not satisfied. I also had a really cool ibanez pedal board. It was called a pue5 or something. That was awesome too. I've never seen one since. Maybe my ear has gotten alot better ( or more critical ) since the early days but i would love to have that stuff side by side with my current gear for comparisons.

The stuff I miss now I had good reason for getting rid of back in the day...

The Gibson EB2, way low output and mud sound.

The 68 Ric4001, hated the neck and the Ric tone.

The 1st blackface Bassman with 2-15 Fender cab loaded with JBL's-just not enough power to keep up with my gutarists.

The Kustom 200 with 3-15" CTS speakers, I had quit playing for years and it just took up too much space in the mobile home.

The Vox Spyder IV violin bass, too acoustic sounding and boomy-traded for a Fender P, best sound upgrade I ever made....

The 2nd blackface Bassman, (this one still stings a lot)...I found it in a second hand music shop and someone apparently wanted it to be a Kustom because they had covered it in red tuck and roll. When I brought it home for $100 I ripped off the tuck and roll to find original tweed underneath....one cigarette burn. Got rid of it for the same reason as the 1st one. (I really could not justify having multiples of any gear back then...I was po...)

I hate thinking about what those guitars and amps are worth now....
