So, discuss: What would be the MINIMUM REQUIREMENT for such an operation, just to start up?
What would you carry in stock? What boutique brands would you rep?
DBs as well as slabs?
How about other gear: Amps, effects, etc. Any need for "general interest" items like pro audio?
What else?

What else? | Started a new thread in misc. about this so we don't hijack this one: If you were to open a music store...

| | | | I usually do jazz melodies and improvs that take me all over the fretboard. I'll often start off with Anthropology, then do Caravan and Four Brothers. If I still like the bass I'll test the slap tone and play Brickhouse or Chameleon. |

Then hit some harmonics to get an idea of the resonance, and see what it's like in the higher registers. Then do some scales, and a little bit of patterns to feel the "groove". Then see what it's like to pop, because I can do fingers and pop, but my slapping is subpar By then I have a basic idea of how it sounds and feels, and if I want it.
You know, the only way to find out what something sounds and feels like -- especially compared to gear you already have -- is to play the same or similar stuff and compare the sound and feel yourself.

Then after I have been there for about 2 minutes a guitarist comes in to try out an amp. So of course he has to try it out REALLY loudly so that he can "hear what it sounds like cranked". I can now barely hear my bass over the guitarist, and I certainly can't hear the tone. Then as soon as I turn up my amp to compensate, he stops, so then I end up slapping the open E string on full volume to a silent store.

Plus, here in Spain I've heard a few other music-store favourites (read: stuff that makes store employees grind their teeth and curse their jobs):
- Another One Bites The Dust
- Billie Jean
- L'Ombelico Del Mondo (google this one)
guilty on playing all of them too, sigh. |

Pretty soon taking the law into your own hands will be called 'going Guitar-Center'. | Guitar Hero has made electronics stores even worse. Anybody who works at Best Buy or Circuit City will tell you that they want to beat everyone who test-plays that game to death. Hearing junior high metal riffs all day is one thing. Hearing people butcher Jimi Hendrix is just torture.
