I bought a set of pickups for my Jazz bass from a fellow bassist a couple months ago.
I kept telling him I would pay him but kept forgetting. I did not mean anything bad at all.
It was $40, so I thought I would use my online bill banking to pay him and asked for his address and, again, forgot about it. I kept thinking "well, the next time we meet, as we will probably do, I will pay him the $40".
Today I went to my luthier to get my neck adjusted, and I did not notice anything wrong with my car, but while I am taking out my bass I see a familiar pickup truck arrive and park in front. Did not think anything about it, and walked inside.
5 minutes later in walks the other dude, whose pickup truck it was. First thing I said "Man, I thought about you the other day!" "Why?" asks the luthier. "Well because I owe him money!" and I put the $40 on the counter for my friend to pick up.
But his attitude was cold towards me and warmed up slowly as we were making small talk the 3 of us. I noticed his attitude was a bit weird and distant, but ok, whatever. Also at the back of my head, the question "Why did it take him 5 minutes to get in?"
I left first and while putting my bass in the car I noticed "someone" had written the F-bomb followed by the word "You" on my window, in the dirt, with his finger. Very noticeable indeed. Was not there when I arrived, that I am 100% sure.
I thought about going back into the shop and giving him a look with a stupid weird smile, but I decided I would the adult one and drove off.
Anything similar happened to you?

I would be irked too if you didn't pay me until months later for goods already delivered, but there are more mature ways to address it then writing FU in dirt on your car!
He could have emailed you or mentioned it right there in person or whatever.
BTW - I've never been insulted by another musician...at least to my face...or windshield rather!

If ya didn't have the money it's one thing, but there's no excuse for just "forgetting" to pay someone ya owe. At least it was just in the dirt on your window and not spray paint or bleach!

REading thorugh your post -- you should have contacted him with a status for the delay.
Wrong for him to write the FBomb..
Wrong of you to not pay your debts.
You're lucky he didn't slash a tire, pull off a mirror or make you look like a fool.

You're lucky he didn't slash a tire, pull off a mirror or make you look like a fool. | I actually did contact him
But that's fine, I moved on.
He actually was my teacher up until 2 months ago and I stopped going because the two last times it was rants about this and that and about his drummer who left him and that said drummer's daughter was a lesbian, followed by some angry anti-gay rant (I think the drummer left him after an identical anti-gay rant), while I was there to learn chord structure and technique.
But I'm cool, now, he's got his money, I somehow lost his number from my Blackberry, and I am not surprised of his attitude.
People can have an interesting flip side sometimes.
