I try to be an hour early at least but the last time I was trying to be early I ran into a parade that was right smack dab in the middle of where I needed to go through. I had to drive around the entire town, call my wife to get on the computer and show me how to get around the town, almost get ran over by a huge combine that was harvesting soy beans since I was on a gravel road, finally get around that town only to find that i still had another half hour to drive, arrive at the city I was playing in and then try to find the college I needed to go to, and then find the lady i was supposed to meet up with to find our time slot while in a sea of about 2000 people. I still made it there over an hour early.

recently , we thought we were scheduled to go on at 9:30pm ...
but , at 9pm. the manager comes out to the parking lot { interupting our usual pre-gig rituals ...}
and insisted that we were scheduled to go on at 8:30pm ...
damn , 30 minutes late !!

luckily , we already had our gear set up , so we just walked in , plugged in , and rocked out .

Never late to a gig, but I've certainly shat away many hours here on TB when I should have been doing other things! Don't mind it tho, I learn a lot here!

I'm surprised so many people HAVEN'T been late to a gig before.

I've been late for
-Searching for my drummer's tickets
-Guitarist taking too long in the shower.
-Buying a pregnancy test.

Thumbs up Late for the gig because.........

Lousy weather, snow over ice on the roads, afternoon load in for a big local wedding, no problems. Back to the motel(we were imported talent for this one) left for the gig, went down a side road, & the ice had melted in the afternoon sun, then re-frozen.
Empty van & black ice, you can figure the rest. Me & our lighting dudette, half donut, then the van flipped over on it's side in a deep snowbank. Blew out the back window & popped one tire! A good samaratin picked us up & got us to the gig a few minutes late. Drummer was the self - imposed manager, freaking on us because we two were not on time(all of the band was Canadian military, totally out of character!). The bride & groom were totally sympathetic, told us to take all the time we needed. Phoned the cops to advise of the van's location, they didn't care as there were no injuries. Made arrangements to get the van pulled out during the gig & played a kickass show, too!

you've got two gigs booked back to back with JUST enough time to get from one to the other and the singer who hired you on job #1 gets a total Elvis attack and does TWO encores?
Wow, you play long enough and everything happens. This was pre-cell phones so it was pretty dramatic....<lol>
I don't try to book things so close together these days....
OK, so it's time to get off of here so I'm not late

I was basically late for a tour once. One car of people left at 6am to drive to Quebec (bout 6-7 hours from me) so they had a nice day at the cottage. Me and the drummer had to work, so he was going to pick me up at 6pm, we'd get there around midnight, sleep, and do the gig the next afternoon. He busted a tire, couldn't find a shop that was open, ended up repacking all our gear and we left around 930-10am.

We we're sucking fumes when we pulled into a tiny little town with an open gas station. I was so happy i took a picture of the gas station. a 55L tank took 54.8L.

Eventually we got to the cottage we were staying at. at about 4am. crashed for like an hour and a half, then woke up to eat and drive the rest of the way to the first gig.

That whole weekend was way to close to disaster for my liking.

I was late once because no one told me what time we started playing. I called the bar and they gave me a later time than the rest of the band was going by.

He must have forgotten to wash his zebra striped Spandex shorts the day before.
Wait?...your drummer wears zebra striped Spandex shorts too, right?

I've only been late twice in the past 2-3 years. Once I was 30 minutes late because I went to the wrong venue.
