Very good topic. Years ago I played in a modern rock band with a tendency towards catchy pop. Don't blame me, that label is the best I can do....
Well....we got booked in a sleazy, heavy metal bar out in the country and some backroad. The bar was full of mulletheads and rednecks who wanted metal, metal, and more metal.
The opening band played a set of covers by Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, and Iron Madien. The mullets were totally loving it.
The headliners played hard, original metal and we were right smack in the middle with our goofy poppy sound.
So after the crowd was totally not into our original music, we pulled out some Kiss, Zep, and a few other hard rock songs we "kind of" knew. Yes, we sucked. And yes, the crowd hated us. |
