We had rehearsal last night, best ever. Very focused and no one's quitting.

Like a lot of people here have said, we're just chalking it up to having a bad night and Saturday's going to f'ing rock.

Oh, and also as someone else said, it was interesting that just about everyone in the audience thought we were good. The only people who didn't were our friends who've hung around practice and been to all our previous shows. One good honest comment from a friend was "What the F was that?!?!" But the people who hired us gave each of us one of those little mini kegs of Heineken and a thank you note inviting us back to play next year. Go figger.

When it comes to putting your band on stage, you're almost always your own worst critic.

ALMOST always.

Glad it was a passing panic.

Yes... Every band has a bad night. It happens, part of the whole "being human" thing.

Best bet is to not kill yourself. You've identified what went wrong. Now just focus on moving forward and addressing the problems. But if you grind it into the ground, that's where in-fighting starts. And then of course, it will happen again. And again.

Personally I love outdoor gigs - I don't know - something about it.

I feel your pain. Our last gig was similar. The guitarist was on 'Cloud Nine'. The singer made up his own arrangements, anxiety took hold and it was down hill from there. I'm hoping they've learnt from our worst gig to date. I'm sure it will be better next time.....It had better be, or heads will roll.

it happens. i like to have a quick talk with everyone before the gig. kinda like a huddle. it seems to help. grabs everyone's focus. it's not a guarantee, but it does bring everyone together.

on to the next gig!

Not having read the whole thread, perhaps this has been covered but : what was the crowd's reaction ? During the set and afterwards ?

If there is one thing I've learned from playing live, it's that what happens on stage is totally different from what happens on the floor.

If people liked you, then suck it up and do better next time.
If people disliked you, then suck it up and do better next time.

Win. Put it down to a bad night. They happen, and when they do, it's usually everything that goes wrong.

Sometimes you're the windshield, sometimes you're the bug. Go out and rock them to hell next gig.

yeah man, sometimes u just aint feeling it. We've played poorly for many reasons, not really good excuses, but it happens when you have a hectic life on top of being in a band.

Without getting too wishy washy, music is waves and energy and things can go badly if someone or someplaces balance is off, and when everyones balance is off, the energy just gets jumbled and confused. Everyones goal in life should be to find that balance, but you can't expect to have it all the time.

I've seen Phish about 20 times, one of their shows absolutley sucked, so I guess it happens to everyband.

On the other hand, my college band must have played 5 great shows, and about 250 horrible ones. Good times looking back on it.

To put a bookend on this story:

Our Saturday night gig attracted about 350-400 people and we made a little less than $400 each for the night.

More importantly though, we really kicked ass. With the exception of some minor mistakes on each members part in some song or another (1 huge one by our guitar player), we were tight, sounded great, and had a great time. The whole thing went very smoothly and we got paid well for the gig.

All's well that ends well.

Seen a few bad gigs, some of the members of the band just didn't feel it that night. Some of us got piss but that what happen when there no order in the group. Now that we assigned a person in charge of what we going to do when we're up there on the stage there is a little more order and less mess up.
