For the rhythm guitarist in my band itd be weed and a mistaken amount of bong water, seriously he comes stoned for a while to our practices fnny but he still hangs with it and knows every chord (call him the chord dictionary). Anywy Energy drinks water adn tap water

Actually, I really prefer Gatorade or Powerade for the electrolyte content, but like I said, I'm hypoglycemic, so if I drink them I have to KEEP drinking them all night or else my sugar gets too low. This problem can be remedied by eating a high-protein meal before the set or lots of protein at a break.
I tend to avoid soft drinks and energy drinks for a number of other reasons, also - they are dehydrating and large amounts of caffeine/other stimulants can cause a lot of unwanted jitters and muscle tension. Beer while I'm playing is a double-edged sword. Alcohol actually keeps my blood sugar very stable for the duration of its effect, and one or two drinks is definitely good for performance (helps you keep those muscles relaxed and drown out the distractions), but too much will TOTALLY ruin your playing - obviously. Liquor is always a no-no for me when I play. |

During shows, maybe a beer or two prior to the gig (sometimes a shot of whiskey is involved just before we go on), water during the gig, and who the hell knows afterwards. |

- One draft beer per set for the first 3 sets. Whenever it was available, we drank Smithwicks, the official beer of the band.
- Diet Coke for the fourth set.
I'm trying to lose weight, so I'm hoping when I get back to gigging I'll have the discipline to just drink seltzer or iced green tea
during the night.

When I have mentioned it, people have said - ah, that's impossible, it probably Constricts your throat.
But, it sure feels like it helps the vocal chords.

Ocean Spray makes a tasty juice concoction of white cranberry and strawberry. It lacks the tartness that I like, so I've been getting cranberry grape or straight up cranberry. Whatever comes in a light or diet is preferred.
A shot of alcohol probably would have helped last night. My fingers were so stiff it was getting me down. I messed up so many times. That was my last time playing with the band for a long time. College is about to take its toll. Sad. I wish it would have been a better performance.
