A relatively experienced musician who performs often and I thought would know better, "you can't mic a bass amp"
we ended up micing some ten inch thing and the bass was buried in the mix, oh well

I said something like, "well, I'm rehearsing as well and it's my job to get my part right. I'm sure you understand." I was nice, in a get-the-hell-out-of-my-face sort of way. She left me alone after that.

Honestly all the musician quotes sound like they're coming from 16 year olds who have been playing for about a year. If anyone gave me the "no bass during guitar solos" deal, I'd be out of there so fast. Really I haven't heard anything like that crap since I was just learning how to play.

I do have to say that playing metal is not all about busy (even moderately busy) basslines. It's about tasteful playing just like every genre and sometimes it sounds much better just to double the guitars. Can you imagine SYL or Fear Factory with John Paul Jones-style bass playing? The music would totally lose its syncopation factor and heaviness.

Not trying to put anyone down, just sayin' I wouldn't (and don't) put up with that crap.
