Got a nice, cheap, relic'd-already, OLD bass with factory Kahler and upgraded pickups in it. The box had black markings in the center on one side and appeared to have been bent in half(folded over) intentionally. Inside, the bass neck screws had pulled out of the neck.....had it been a set neck bass, it would have cracked the neck or neck joint.
Fixable and worth it still but FEDEX YOU FAIL !
I've shipped and received 50+ basses all over the USA USPS and received plenty from Japan EMS/USPS. All with no damage.
FEDEX YOU FAIL. EVERY CHANCE I GET, I WILL SUGGEST TO SOMEONE THAT THEY USE A DIFFERENT CARRIER.
That is all.

| | | | I won't ship anything of value with anyone other than FedEx. They have never once screwed up on me. I mean that literally - never once. I've used them to ship within Toronto and around the globe.
The difference can be seen during the intake process. Compare how many steps there and how anal the process is vs. the other couriers.
USPS seems pretty reliable, if slow. UPS is a total joke and I wouldn't use them if the shipment was free. I'm pretty sure that FedEx is rated very high in terms of customer satisfaction.

That's a different story. Fedex Ground uses contractors that aren't technically Fedex employees to deliver packages, and I wouldn't use them under any circumstances.
Example: at my job I had someone report a lost package 2 days before Christmas. I called Fedex and was transferred to the local hub. A manager got on the phone and told me the following - no BS. The Fedex Ground driver took an 18 wheeler full of packages, never delivered them and never came back. This driver was currently working for a different Fedex Ground location a couple of hours away. For 2 weeks they had been trying to get the packages back. They couldn't fire him because he was a contractor now working at a different location, and there was apparently a legal gray area because he hadn't "technically" stolen anything and was still working for Fedex. So after discussing how ridiculous this was I asked what they planned to do, and the manager said "hope he brings the packages back or delivers them".
Now that's an extreme case, and I'm guessing there was probably some legal avenue for them to take after a certain period of time, but it shows you how the company operates. Again, Fedex Express is awesome and I've never had a problem with Fedex Freight/LTL, but I would never use Fedex Ground. YMMV. |

| | Life's too short for a cheap cigar. | | | | | Both companies will occasionally have problems, but UPS has demonstrated to me on multiple occasions their incompetence and negligence, while I've not had a single problem with FedEx. |

OP before you throw the entire FedEx company under the bus please specify which FedEx it was! Also, most of us have had a bad experience with a damaged or lost package. Mine was with UPS but I don't hate them for it. Courier companies ship so many packages per day something is going to get damaged. That is why they provide insurance. IMO FedEx is easier to deal with if you have to file a damage claim. UPS tends to deny them much more often!

Stuff can happen with any of the primary shippers. FDX Express is not immune from damage/loss claims.
Having said that, I have never shipped anything using FedEx Ground. Take that fwiw. |

Take that fwiw. | Yes, we get damaged packages from all carriers occasionally, but the instances of "ridiculous" damage, i.e. boxes folded in half, soaked completely through with footprints/mud on them, etc., happen much more often with Fedex Ground IME. Sure, every once in a while a forklift goes through a box instead of under it, but Fedex Ground will likely send it on whereas 9 times out of 10 Fedex Express will note the damage, notify the sender and return the shipment. |

I have shipped and received dozens of items over the years with no problems until last week. I shipped a bass via FedEx and I guess it arrived to the new owner with damage to the input jack.
I have had very bad experiences with UPS and USPS in the past. |

The guy showed up, nobody answered. So he left the bass on the stairs leading to my house. The box was in plain view to absolutely anybody that walked by.
I got an e-mail from them later that day confirming the delivery, and that I had signed for it at about 9am.
So not only did the guy leave my bass in view of any sticky fingered passerby, he forged my signature.
Called up FedEx, after about 3 weeks, they finally got hold of the guy, who says he can't remember my street, would have to go there again to see if his memory is jogged, but was working an entirely different area at the time and therefor couldn't do it. I had to send them a copy of my license to prove that the signature wasn't mine.
It's an absolute joke. They did give me the entire amount I paid for the bass, so I did get a free bass out of it. Still, I'd never trust them again.

1. Bad karma for me If I pulled that, but I do understand your frustration.
2. Was he being lazy when hey forged your signature so he didnt have to come back? But if he did wait to get your signature then it would have been another day before you got your package and that is a pain when you are gone working and have plans.
I work for FedEx and I think that it is strange that we have FedEx ground,Home and FedEx Express that are run so differently,I believe that Ground and Home were other companies that FedEx Express bought. Quote:

| | twister of knobs, maker of squeaky beepy | | | | | One's success or failure with any given transport company, is a very dependent on the region and local office. You simply cannot make sweeping claims about any company. If you live near a good UPS/Fedex provider, then you are one of those who loves the company, if not, you don't.
