So long story short, I haven't played guitar for more than 5 or 10 minutes at a time, once in a blue moon in the approx 2.5 years I've now owned a bass. I decided I wanted to be a bassist, not a guitarist, and not a combination of the two.
Well, my son wants to play guitar. So I've given him my old Squier Strat (our last guitar left). Yesterday I dug out the tube amp I designed and built many years ago (old school Marshall-ish pre + Deluxe Reverb pwr amp, but no reverb), plugged in a speaker I had pulled from an old peavey 2x12 that was still laying around, borrowed back his/my guitar, and started playing around.
My fingers don't work on those little strings anymore. The scale length is all wrong... I can't do it.
I realized when I got up this morning that I've achieved
Metamorphosis. Except instead of waking up as a cockroach, well I woke up as a bassist.... you can make the cockroach/guitarist joke if you like.
Hey, cheers to all that play both guitar and bass... I'm just having a laugh... maybe if I practiced I could do it too.
Oh, and I didn't say I was a GOOD bassist... just a bassist.
