Fender USA to be purchased by Chinese investment group !

Breaking news copied / pasted from AP: Fender Electric Instrument Manufacturing Company has entered into an agreement to be purchased by a business conglomerate based in Guangzhou, China. Fender (FEIMC) is a privately held corporation, with the controlling majority of its stock owned by a group of its own company officers and managers. Larry Thomas, Chief Executive Officer said this in a statement today "After careful deliberation over the last several months, the Board Of Directors here at Fender have decided to sell a majority interest to The QuiaGon Group. The sale and transfer is pending approval by the FTC, and will consummate one year from today, on April 1, 2012. " The QuiaGon Group is primarily known to American consumers for products ranging from the Sham Wow, Snuggie, and novelty T-shirts - including, ironically, Fender-branded items. The only previous experience QuiaGon has in music instrument manufacturing involved cheaply made copies of well-known, copyright-protected instrument designs. Fender was, in fact, the lead plaintiff in an international lawsuit in 1998 which halted production. According to a spokesman for QuiaGon, Fender`s current manufacturing facilities in Corona, California (USA) and Ensenada, Baja California (Mexico) will begin shuttering later this year as all product lines are shifted to a rual plant being refurbished in the Xianahi province. "We are greatly looking forward to being able to legally provide musicians with downgraded, cheap versions of the iconic instruments that made Fender a worldwide nameplate" says the company spokesman.

Ouch!...well I am glad I got my Classic p-basses and I don't think I will focus on Fender unless it's older ones.

Think of all the threads that would have to be closed because of this....SX vs. Fender, Squier vs. Fender.....What's the best Chinese bass for metal?

Shame really, this would mean that all Fenders would be playable off the wall....

Woke my wife up at 4 Am and told her there were ICBM's enroute from Russia and we had to get to a shelter as quick as possible.

I waited until we were in the car then asked her what time it was, knowing her watch displays the date directly below the time.

All I had to worry about after that was selling the idea my black eye was the result of walking into a door in the dark.
