First gig with my current band tonight! AH!

So I've been playing with my band for a couple of years and we've basically been writing and rehearsing the whole time. We played one show at our college but that doesn't really count as the crowd was all friends. So we have this gig at a bar in Detroit (where we go to school) and this bar is a pretty big concert venue. (Small's in Hamtramck).

I'M NERVOUS! I haven't played any gigs in four years and am freaking out sort of! Not in a bad way just anxious as @#$@. What do you guys do to ease your nerves before a show? I might have a beer or two before to take off the edge but I for sure do not want to risk playing like a drunkard and screwing it up.

I also have a question about micing bass amps. We play in a more ambient post-rock/metal band and I use alot of fuzz and distortion. My amp also colors my sound a lot so my eq up to the amp point wouldnt sound very good direct into the p.a. Do you think that the sound guy would have any problems with this? Would it be wise to bring a mic for myself in case he has no extras or isnt prepared for this?

Thanks.

I much love whiskey but I'm missing the funds for a bottle of jameson. I'll have to settle for the Rock&Roll or Canadian Club.

Whatever takes the edge off. In this instance I think any bit of booze will do you fine--whether it's consumed in the Hamptons on the east coast or at a local dive bar in Victorville, California. 2 or 3 or 4 won't hurt you. It'll balance and relax you and allow you to be the player that you really are.

Oh. DON'T FORGET TO BREATHE. Seriously. I almost constantly have to remind myself to not hold my breath when a part comes up that puts me front and center. Not breathing consistently will tighten you up big time.

Therefore; enough booze to get you loose and maybe a sticky note on the stage floor that says "BREATHE".

It won't hurt to bring your own mic, but the soundguy is god, be nice to him. Good luck, and have fun.

If the sound guy is God, I think everyone would be nice to him
