First gig with the new band.

Just got home from our first gig as a band.

After our last band pretty much dissolved last December, the drummer and I decided to pursue another project together. He had a guitarist friend that wasn't playing with anybody at the time. We had our first jam in January and just clicked. We've written about 35 min of material since then (7 songs), and were beginning to prep for shows.

The guitarist was apparently asking some of his friends about shows on Friday, and they just had a band drop from one of their bills. So we picked up the gig on 2 days notice.

It was a lot of fun, we got a pretty good crowd response... there were actually people watching us, which was kind of a refreshing thing coming from the last band we were in.

We got the whole show on video, so as soon as I can find a comp with firewire ports I'll upload it and share with you guys. Probably sometime within the next week.

Sounds like you had a great show. Congrats!
Cool that you were able to do it with a couple of days notice.
Looking forward to the video.

Sometimes spontaneity makes for an awesome unforgettable gig, sounds like it did for you, congrats!

My return to playing, after a 15 year hiatus (marriage, a house, kids, & such), found me auditioning for a local tribute band. I checked them out on a Sunday afternoon; the following Saturday they called and asked me if I could do a gig that night! Their old bass player, who had given notice, but told them he would complete already-booked gigs, let the band know he wouldn't be available...that night or any other. This, with about 4 hours notice! I did the gig...& material we hadn't even tried (with me) yet. Went fine...band lasted for 3 years doing that scene. I never forgot that night...

Congrats, I'm envious! With the scant time I have to practice with my partner, I don't know when we'll ever get out there.

It has been YEARS since I've performed in front of a live audience, paying or not.
