My son is 13 years old and has been playing bass since August 06. Last weekend, the band he's in played their first gig! I've been teaching him and he's been teaching himself but the whole band did themselves proud - they sounded fantastic! Songs ranging from Alannah Miles Black Velvet to the Chili Peppers Californication. I've paid money to hear far worse
Sam and his heavy great J Bass...
The band - CREATION
The thong that was draped over Sam's headstock sometime during the set break - Rock God indeed
As you can imagine, I am very proud

Some of the greatest days in my life were when I was playing with my son (a percussionist) and he was showing me all of these intricate/complex grooves ...... |

They do not have a bass player, so I am filling in and I cannot wait. They have been practicing very hard. Way to go SAM!!!

He used to be a drummer, and at one point his band was invited to go on tour with Inglebert Humperdink. It just so happened that I played drums for half of the set in this partiular band, too. When he ended up walking in, I was so surprised and excited to see him there, I pretty much lost the beat (and the entire song) haha
I mean, I don't have kids... so that's all I have to contribute. ;-D
At any rate, it looks like he had a good show... which is especially important for your first one. My first show was terrible. A total disaster. No one had their crap together, and we had technicaly problems out the wazoo. I was pretty much the only one with an actual amp, so they all tried running direct (yes, even the guitarists... they didn't have DI's either). They refused to buy anything. I pretty much funded that whole band. Then we broke up, and they forced me to sue them...
Whoa. Enough grumbling.
I'm happy for you and your son! ;-D

Is the Fender yours?
If it's his first, he's a lucky SOB, I moved up to an SX paid fully by me December 05 because it was greatly needed... |

The best thing is, if I say something isn't hard to learn, then he doesn't find it hard - he just gets on with it. He's using my amp at the moment and it's more than big enough! Quote:

When he said he would like to learn bass, I picked that one up quite cheap for him. The pickups were shot and the body looked like something the dog dragged in so I had the body resprayed and then replaced the pickups and electronics and it was good to go.
