I am in a band, been playing bass for 6 months, and first gig did not go well.

I am 13, as are the rest of the members of my band, the 2 guitarists have both been playing for 3 years, as has the drummer.

At my first gig, i played a song of which only the e-string was used, and as i was playing in front of the whole school (1000+ students) what happened? My e-string broke.

Be careful. Carry Spare strings.

Wow! I can't believe that I haven't posted in this thread yet.

I picked up bass at 12, and if you consider playing in front of people to be a gig, the first time I ever played bass it was a gig.

Played in my Dad's church with the worship band, in front of 50 - 60 people.

I was with my band for about two years before we played our first gig together, with me as the lead vocalist -- I was nervous as hell! Just keep your head together and you'll do fine. Try not to think too much about it before the actual gig. Keep in mind that you will probably be more comfortable by the time you finish your first song. Have fun and remember, no matter how long you've been playing for, everyone makes a mistake or two -- don't dwell on it! Good luck and have fun!

About a year, maybe less. I felt unprepared, but not musically.
