first real practice!

I had my first real experience playing with others since highschool today, scary as hell and a lot harder than I expected, but I started to catch up a little as practice went on. I sat in with the praise band at my church, a patient and helpful bunch thankfully. I will keep practicing with them until they/I feel I am ready to play in front of the congregation. I could not believe how much harder it was to just play root notes off a chart than it is to play riffs out of books etc. Especially going in cold.
I am pumped, my faith is pumped, and I have inspiration to practice now too.
Chris, the 41 year old noob.
Sure wish I had played more and partied less in high school.

No worries, it takes a couple of sessions to get the feel. I was scared to death first time I played with a real band. I had only had one lesson, and the bandleader starts handing out notes for Layla. And I couldn't even read notes at the time.

That's great, Chris! Stick with it!

I started playing with my church's ensemble last year. I could hardly read music at all, but they stuck with me and I with them, and now I'm sight reading a lot of stuff and am much more comfortable. They had no real low end and the music director is really getting used to having me hold it down for 'em. Very rewarding - in so many ways.
