I'm only 14, same as the rest of my band, so we decided to start off by playing at the school talent show. You only have ten minutes, so we were only able to play one song, which for us was "Won't Get Fooled Again". We did pretty well, and the crowd of about 300+ people at our middle school really got into the song, constantly clapping and jumping through the song. Our only mistake was that our drummer's drumstick slipped from his hands at the end of the drum solo, but he was able to pick it up and keep playing. But we lost to a group of two guitards who sang "Sounds of Silence". That sounded decent, but then the one went into a five minute, improve guitar solo that did not match the song at all, then got an "encore" (prearranged, the crowd did not want one) and played a pretty bad version of "Boulevard of Broken Dreams". They had no bassist or drummer. But the won. (Three of the five judges were very close friends of the two). In the end, as they were presented with the prize money, they were booed off the stage and the crowd began chanting our band name, but the teachers wouldn't let us set up to play our encore song, "Baba O'Riley".
Anyway, just thought I should share this. It was a fun experience, and our band is going to start gigging this June. |
