Anyhow, good luck man, make sure to come back and let everyone know how it goes, and try and throw up some videos if possible! Break a leg!!! |
The one show has two middle school students in it, so that's their whole crowd, meaning their fans are very fleeting of interest.
It was the first time out for the other band as well, but we've maintained a presence with our fans and released some demos, so we had people there for us.
We were all nervous as hell, and we had a new singer (he literally just met us yesterday and only had a day to learn the stuff). Instead of our normal metal stuff, we ended up doing a lot of basic 4-chord covers (Nirvana, green Day, etc.) I know I messed up entire sections of a song because the arpeggios I had to hit were too hard to stretch the whole time. We also accidentally ended "Walk" after the solo, but then went back into the end, and it had a great effect, like an encore.
All in all, I think it went well. We were definitely the best of the 3 bands there. We got paid $60 for ticket sales -- $12 for each of us. Not a whole lot, but it's a good feeling getting paid for that. The owner also made it a point to tell us several times how much he loved us, and booked us on two gigs with big local acts -- one in September, one in December.
Also, the venue owner noticed my lead singer sweating a lot, so he brought up a Mesa Boogie shirt in the middle of the song and gave him a 5 minute break to change out of his long sleeve button up. Probably a marketing move to sell the shirt, but very cool indeed.
