Flying gear

Yep, really. 2 weeks ago I was at practice, looked in my case and saw a screw sat there that I didn't recognise, I though no more about it as screws fall in and out of my cases on a regular basis, left it in the pocket until I could think where it came from.
This evening, sat down to put some lovely shiny new flats in my P-bass, and as I unwound the G, out flew the gear. Figured out where that screw came from now, took me a while to put 2 and 2 together there though. I've played the thing every night since I spotted that screw, no problems. Took a screwdriver to the gears on the other tuners, and sure enough, all quite loose.
Moral of the tale, tighten your gears kids.

I thought this was going to be about rigging or a sad story about bad baggage handling...

I always go over the whole bass and check that stuff every string change. Its the only way I remember to do it

6-9 months or when I get really annoyed by the bits of nanoweb coating hanging off everywhere.

I thought a misleading title might be fun, it's not the most interesting story ever told.

When I'm gigging, every month, minimum.

When I'm not gigging, every 2 - 3 months.

Well, he's using flats. So "never" deserves to be on this list. I don't think any flat users change their strings every month (although I could be wrong). They get better with age.

Well, I don't change my bass flats very often at all - but I change the flats on my guitbox after every gig and/or after every two rehearsals.

Seeing as I play hard and use a steel pick, there's actually chunks taken out of the strings after a show. You can see 'em.

First ever set of flats, still not sure how much I like them, if they stay sounding like this forever then yeah, I might stick with them.

i leave 'em on for about a year .
my P-Bass and Chrome flats = thumpin' goodness .

they'll be good for many practices , many gigs .

...and yeah , do a little maintenance on your instrument every once in a while .

it's not a good sign for screws to fall off your bass ...

Screws fall out. The world's an imperfect place.
