Frustrated-Gig Canceled While I'm Driving There!

Supposed to be at a gig tonight. Was really looking forward to it. First time at this bar, outside with beautiful weather. Had my gear loaded and just left the house when my drummer calls to inform me that we have been canceled. Apparently the owner didn't think they were going to have enough of a crowd to justify having a band. How could they have known that an nearly two hours before we were supposed to play. We had people coming as well. Needless to say I'm not happy about it. I know they have to do what is best for them to make money but I don't think it's cool to cancel with such short notice. Needless to say I won't ever play there now!

Sorry to hear that.
My first thought is: bar owner books bands, gets them to bring friends, then cancels band, leaving bar filled with friends but doesn't have to pay band...

But I'm just paranoid...

That is a good theory except that we never even got the chance to get the friends to the bar. They pulled the plug on it while the guitar player was there setting up the PA before our people ever arrived!

Cancelled

We were cancelled once after soundcheck cause we were too heavy. The bar owner said that his place "would be destroyed"! This is a bar where Metallica played on their first tour. We were paid flat rate anyway. It happens contracts are a good thing, it coveres both ends of it.

Had that happen in the middle of a gig where the owner / manager asked if we could knock off after two sets. We brought our own limited crowd but it was a tiny club and the guy was losing his shirt. The club now only advertises "open mic" nights and the sort.
