All of this has absolutely nothing to do with Scott Devine, who really puts out some cool instructional videos at no cost, just sharing his knowledge. Major props to Scott!
This "baby steps" concepts works for everything from Music to Finance (check out www.daveramsey.com). I did hang and listen and he seems to be really encouraging to a struggling student-so I've got nothing negative to say about it.
BTW, Aram is obviously having a bit of fun with the whole instructional video concept with Dynamic Bass.
Gah... SO FRUSTRATING! I've watched all twenty two online videos and bought the 3 DVD set of Dynamic Bass, but I still can't master the art of soloing! What's wrong with me?!?! I am also still having trouble with the case, but I'm practicing every day!

I don't see a problem. His lessons are helpful, he wants to eat, I'm good with that.

Rimbaud, apparently you didn't read what I replied about that: Jeff-Berlin-not-less condoned the "baby steps approach", not the sneaky s.! I can't talk on his behalf but, knowing him a bit, I doubt very much he would give it his full support...

That being said, you know what? I really regret I started this thread in the first place! It started with a "Ooooh look at the copycat!" and here we are... Frankly there are MANY MANY more interesting threads on this excellent forum! Plus my brand new second-hand JB that scared the hell out of me is now perfectly set up. So, I'll call it a day and make it groove! And no, I don't need any magic bullet Groove Formula!

Let's be friends, guys! Please!

The fact is: you don't know this guy and you are trying to bash him with your poor "effet de manche".

If you are trying to get some buzz with that, well that's right you did something just for your own person on the world very very very very wide web today ... hurray....

Oh sorry you tried to make us laugh ??? oh really so sorry I didn't understood a word... are we still some friends my beloved dude ?? ......

Once I had a problem with a well known bass player about his hype about OC-2 pedals and his thoughts about harmony instruction, I told him directly on his FB account. If you have some problems with guys, be a man and tell them directly, ok ?

Man oh man! Cool down! I don't know what you call an "effet de manche" but what I know is YOU don't know what you're talking about. I don't know what your motivations are (are you being paid to write absolute nonsense such as "he IS really well known in Europe, in Asia too, in Australia too". [Edited for clarity: That's TOTALLY beside the point! Who talked about Scott being "known" or "unknown" for that matter, be it in the US or on Mars?] Anyway, noot even Scott himself claims that! And, instead of getting mad for very little, perhaps you should learn to use Google, use quotes to surround "fistname surname" and add another keyword like... "bass" or "bassist". Then come up with tour dates or something, anything to prove your point.

And yes, I'm just trying to get some buzz... You're 100% right, man! Satisfied? The last word will be for you, don't worry, I'm done with this thread. Just wanted to give you little tips on how to use Google before you blindly worship or condemn anybody or anything.

So long, my friend!

I didn't plan to add anything to this thread that already took a regrettable "bad turn"... Not a HUGE bad turn, but a very unexpected direction, at least.

But I just received an email from a buddy who had just read this thread and pointed out very rightly that I should have made it even more "crystal clear" that neither I nor anybody else in this thread mentioned that Scott was "unknown in the US" or anywhere else! Any reference to that was totally beside the point, so I edited my previous post to make it (even) clearer.

And, as an aside, I don't give a darn about a teacher being known worldwide or not. More than that, I don't give a darn about him/her having outstanding chops or whatever, provided he can help me on the right path. Well, if he/she happens to have outstanding chops, enjoys an "international recognition" AND is a great teacher, it doesn't hurt, of course. But for me, that's not a determining factor.

The questions I ask myself are:

- Is this teacher the best (for me), to help me go at least one step further?
- Do I respect him/her as a teacher/musician?
- Do I respect him/her as a man/woman?
(- Can I afford his/her teachings?)

If the answer to any of these questions is "no", then that's not for me. Period.

So again, nobody talked about "international recognition" except the one who answered a point that wasn't even made, in any way, shape or form.

Hope this clarifies mine.

The greatest teacher I ever knew had "international recognition." His name was Jesus.

While TB Member Pklima's video is great for double bassists, I found this one much more helpful http://youtu.be/140QmUnAGeI

Oh yeah... I forgot about that guy. Funny, funny lesson, too. The vision of being 'tight' (with the jeans, not necessarily the drummer) got burned into my retinas. UG.

This one is really cool too: http://www.5min.com/Video/How-to-Pla...eggios-2459757

It's sad, in a way, because the guy looks genuinely nice! So, no offense, Rudy... just try and work on the economy of motion (but let's rock-and-roll though!).

Btw. this vid can be very helpful to beginners (or even more advanced players... this guy is a pro: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rudy_Sarzo): it shows exactly how NOT to play arpeggios.

Amazing movie!

But yeah, I love how these guys are trying to sound deep, like they just discovered the meaning of life or something... it's just common sense... really, the best advice, IMO, is "shut up and play".

Unbelievable... And the worst part is that the guy looked super-cool only one year ago...
Must have made too many grands/month from his donations & products that he could withstand without going THE DEEP END...

Tragic, in a way... I'm not even sure I'm laughing...

Haha! That's it exactly!

"The Lord, he talks to me, ya know? And he said to me 'Get the 18 million dollars by the weekend!' ". Haha!

But you know... these guys think --and rightly so, that nobody ever lost money betting on human stupidity... But what's sad is that you don't necessarily have to be "stupid" to fall into the trap: just too credulous or searching for "guidance". That's what these guys play with, the need for guidance we all can feel at some point.

What too many people don't see is when the "guide" is only interested in their money! In the case of this Scott guy, it shows FROM MILES AWAY now! I say "now" because, right or wrong, I think it hasn't always been the case: he looked rather genuine before, but OBVIOUSLY this isn't the case anymore. It's soooo obvious that he's applying marketing tactics he's learned by heart, the two links you're giving at the beginning of the thread are only one piece of evidence! There are so many others: this incredible pop-up video, the first 4 bars of Donna Lee he soooo generously gives away with 3 crappy METRONOME tracks... and if you want more, all you have to do is to "donate" 20 bucks! And this video... God! how sincere he looks...

Anyway... whatever we say, as long as these guys find 1,000 or even 10,000 guys and gals / month who fall for it, they don't give a shxt what other think! Such is life... and some humans, man.

What a beautiful day!
