Funny Craiglist response to ad

Sign in to disble this ad
So I put a bass cabinet up on my local Craigslist for $100. I get a response right away asking if I would take $20 for it. I respond back with "sure". A while later I get a response asking me if that is really the lowest I can go.

I figure that by the time the guy gets done negotiating with me I will have given him the cabinet, my truck and my life's savings.

Say sure, I'll give it to you for $10, and only $90 to load it into your car!

I just got another reply asking if I would take $10 for it.

Maybe I should have listed the cabinet for $1000. That way I will get $100 for it when people offer me 90% less!

Now he wants it for free! (I told you that he was a tough negotiator!)

I should go to church now to pray now because I am filled with temptation to tell him that I give it to him if he meets me on the corner (in the bad part of town). I'll be there at 1 AM after my gig. If you don't see me just keep asking people around.....they all know me.

Resist......mmmmmmust resissssssst ttttttttemptation.

Wow he is tough! You need to do what this one custom company on ebay does with their basses -- start the auction at $0.01 and then charge $140 for shipping.

Just give him a fake address nearby and watch him get all pissy getting stood up.

So....the next logical step is to agree to give it to him for *free*, meet to give it to him, and have him bum $20 bucks off of you. If you agree, he will then ask for $100.

I thought that I would get rid of him by asking him what he was wearing.....but it seems he is too stupid to understand what I was insinuating.

I'm wondering why you even told him you'd take $20 for it? Seems like if you'd drop from $100 to $20 right off the bat then... hey, let the games begin!

If he's real dense, then tell him you'll meet him at the gay club and he'll get the amp in return for a lap dance.

Or you could tell him that you really need the money to pay to have the huge abcess on your nads lanced.

Both should have him leave you alone.

Bingo.

If I think I can get it for free, I'm going to lowball until I get there.

My "sure" response to his $20 was more like a "Yeah right, when monkeys fly out of my ***"" type of response. I thought that he would get the sarcasm.

No offense, but why would you think that? This is Craigslist, right? You don't know whom you're dealing with, so it probably doesn't make sense to get cute.

I think you probably failed to make it sufficiently clear that you were being sarcastic, so in a way you kind of opened the door for what you got. Doesn't excuse the guy for the subsequent crap, but maybe next time it would save trouble if you don't try to be cute and just say, hell no.

Exactly. Brutal honesty is the only way to deal with people like this. I've mentioned this in another thread, but one time I had a very nice MIA Fender Jazz listed for an extremely fair $550.00.

A guy responds tersely: "Jazz Bass. $350.00."

While I normally wouldn't even reply to such an offer, I replied (just as tersely): "Jazz Bass. $600.00." That was the last I heard from him.

Oh, BTW I sold the cab to a young guy last night. I would have taken less if he asked me.....just because he seemed to be starting out.
