Getting the younger generation into classic music

Here's how to do it:

Wow, all that trickery. I just get my kids to listen to it. Usually they will turn their nose up at the classical version.
I then YouTube a guitarist or band playing a more modern version of the tune.
Most times, they want to hear the classical version again so they can see how it got from that to what they enjoy listening to.
A classic example is the guy who plays Fur Elise on guitar with a full metal style backing band. There is also a guy who plays multiple string instruments on the one tune and syncs them all. I am at work but will search for links tonight...

Fur Elise is very easy for kids to listen to because a lot of baby toys already play the tune. Little Einsteins is a good show for introducing kids to classical music too.

I don't know -- if it means pandering to the "younger generation", I'd just as soon leave the youth to their Korn, their Killers, their KMFDM.

When I was 12, I decided I loved Weber, Hummel, Vivaldi, Haydn, and Mozart without having to be told that it was "cool" to do so. In fact, I rather liked the fact that none of the assholes I went to school with would have anything to do with such music.

It may be different in Europe (where the OP is from) -- there, people seem to listen to classical, pop, and other genres "side by side." Here in the "greatest country in the world," we tend to be more narrow in our views, generically speaking. If you like country, you can't like rap. If you like punk, you can't like Pink Floyd, that sort of thing. And of course, no one likes classical.

FWIW I love modern pop, country and rap (rock, indie or punk, not much), so I have no interest in getting "the kids" into Pink Floyd or Wagner. I'm just passing along a silly fake concert poster I found.

Shame. Classical music is not considered by many the best music in the world for no reason. For a start they don't repeat their chord progressions in an obvious way. Missing classical music is like missing the ocean. You'll never really understand just what you missed.

Shame? I'm a lot more interested in bass humor than I am in bass shame.

I've performed some Vivaldi, Schubert, Bach etc. in public, and still do sometimes. I get a lot more satisfaction from playing Britney Spears. As for the ocean, I like seafood.

Yeah, "the world burns up and the gods get killed by wolves and snakes and stuff like that", you could also use that line to market black metal to little kids, haha.

Im 16 and I have an interest in any type of music. I dont listen to loads of Heavy Metal or loads of Classical, but when I hear it, I appreciate it and the complexity of how it was arranged.
My parents don't particularly care much about music in general, and definitely didn't introduce me to classical. I suppose its just a personal thing where some people will come to enjoy it, and some won't.

My son is into his music but is also just as into any albums he earns from me doing chores and the like.. Including Floyd, MJ, EWF, Michael Franti, etc..

I'm 19 and I'm studying music in University. I've loved Bach, Beethoven, Wagner and Mozart for years and my parents wouldn't recognise a tri-tone if it was repeated hundreds of times to them. I also love jazz, heavy metal and traditional music and I've never felt that having people promoting it and telling me what's brilliant and what's not has made me love music any more. I don't think telling 'the younger generation' to listen to what you think is great is going to have any sort of profound effect on them(/us).
Let 'em off, if they hear it and think it's enjoyable to listen to, they'll get into it. That's surely how I did so!

Uh...I think kids should listen to New music because lots of New Alt bands are just emulating parts from Classic rock. I'm 45 and most Classic rock is cheesy, long winded and boring. Oh ha ha I thought it was for Classic rock not Classical music that is kinda boring, long winded and what was I saying?
