Going out & seeing a band that's really getting into it is one thing. Going out & seeing a band who's body language & delivery makes you think they'd rather be home doing laundry; not so much. | True dat. |

| | | | I'm now 17 (still very underage) and have been gigging since I was 15. Most places i've played at tell me and my band "if you go near the booze we're kicking you out and having you arrested...but other than that you're fine" so maybe try to find some slightly lenient club owners |

I've never heard of a place that allowed in minors even with a parent/guardian. | Outside of St. Louis. I've seen people under 18 playing at the local bars.
It's strictly dependent on local laws, it's not a federal thing.

And I'm sure there are still some places in Ca that will let those underagers play anyways, after all, smoking is supposed to be banned in bars, but practically ever bar withing 10 miles of my house will still let people smoke.

Does it bother you guys? | You're probably not as good as you think you are. Hell, I've been playing for over 11 years and I still suck. And things change when ya turn 18. Most venues (read: insurance policies) don't wanna deal with a bunch of whiny underagers at shows. Sucks for some but really cuts down on "issues", not that 18 year olds are that much more mature but that's just how society is for now.
I still think the drinking age should be lower and the driving age should be higher.

Some clubs around here have a strict "no one under 21 rule," while others, I was able to slip by because I looked of age. But theres gotta be plenty of open stages you can play at, usually restaurants, look into it. Unfortunately, age comes with stereotypes. For some, teenagers= poor musicianship, immaturity and irresponsibility and theyd rather turn the other cheek. Its hard to be taken seriously at that age. But keep practicing, youll get better and this will all pass in no time! |

Hell we played a middle school dance my senior year and so far that was my favorite gig. The kids thought we were the s***! So there are opportunities for gigs that aren't age sensitive, you just have to find them. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
