Recent departure forces us to look for bassist. Power Pop, melodic rock, a smidgeon of Americana, Neil Young flavored. No Disney Channel/KROQ pop punk types. No metal, be it '60's, 70's, '80's 90's or 00's metal. Zzzzz. No West L.A. metrosexual trendoids with carefully crafted image looking like everyone else. Hipsters, begone. No shaved heads. No grey beards unless you're Brad Pitt. No fat guts making you play your bass with arms outstretched. Tats and piercing are so freaking last century. Dying to make it in show biz? So die already. No, we will not pay you. You're a bass player, you don't have that many strings to memorize. Now, that takes are of pretty much everyone who've answered my past ads. If you're proficient, don't look too bad or too good, like an array of styles of music (the aformentioned not included), kinda know your rock and roll history (that should make you more discerning and tasteful) and seriously enjoy songs and playing such, we might let you play with us. You can be 50 if you still have a good image, as we are not an old fart band. You can be in your 20's if your cool. Wait, impossible. You can be in your 30's if your cool. 40's cool, as long as you don't like the band Rush. We have day jobs that pay well, so we have good gear. Probably better than yours. I have five or six expensive basses, and I'm the guitarist. If you can manage a passable backing vocal, you'll go to the front of the line. I realize that being a bassist, you're thinking you're God's gift and all you have to do is exist in a band to be revered, but no. You have to contribute, and one thing that sets us apart is harmonies. You will send me your myspace or webpage or whatever first, because I cannot bear to have hacks even look at or listen to our stuff. If you are accepted, we will act like decent, drug and alcohol free human beings to you, perhaps even befriend you. Until then, you're just another freaking bassist in L.A. How sad. First gig in August.

And if I were in LA I'd probably take a little time to ensure they didn't have a lead guitarist either, come to think of it.

| | | Oh crap! I'm nearly 53 and need to lose weight; like Rush as a band, and this gig opportunity of a lifetime comes and I can't qualify! I'll no doubt have to see a shrink to deal with the deep dark depression I now feel. Life just isn't fair! |

I can't believe anyone would pay these guys, and I don't think they have the proper attitude to have worked their way up from non-paid opening / open mike / open stage appearances. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
