Gig drama

Two nights ago I had a show, truly one of the hardest shows I've ever had to prepare for and play.

It all started off on Halloween, this was the day I drove my bicycle into a brick wall - fractured my wrist in 2 places, suffered 3 broken ribs, a concussion, various bruises and cuts. This was also a week before the biggest show my band was to play.

A week later after the incident on the day of the show my band had found a suitable replacement to fill in. We ended up playing the show in front of a rather large crowd with me playing tambourine on tylenol 3's.

The owner of the venue had asked us back on January 3rd, We gladly excepted. This day was precisely 2 weeks after I was to get my cast off.

After I had finally gotten my cast off and after almost 7 weeks of playing no bass I figured I'd hop to it and practice. It took me a week of various exercises just to be able to grip the E string with my index finger.

A week before the gig my band had started to rehearse our set again. During this week my long beloved Trace Elliot 1518 cab broke down and I was stuck practicing with a much more measly Peavey TKO 80.

During this week I had to rework all my bass lines due to the fact I couldn't stretch my fingers more then 2 frets and had a hard time playing notes on the E string still.

Finally the day of the show I rent an SWR Goliath III to match up with my Kustom 1200 head, things we're finally looking up.

It is finally show time, here is where things get even worse. 2 of the other 4 bands that were supposed to play did not show up and the other band that did show up didn't bring any people to the venue.

To top this night off while setting up my equipment on the stage the wire in my one and only neutrik speakon cord comes undone. Despite the soundman's efforts he cannot reattach the wire. So I had to run my head into the D.I which wasn't to bad although I had no stage volume and could not hear myself playing.

Anyways moral of the story don't break bones and bring doubles of everything prone to breaking down.

Cables always fail. I always bring a replacement for every cable.

How did the gig go over with the crowd? That's what really matters.

Throughout all the hassle the crowd still loved us and yes I'll be preparing for the next show to be flawless.
