Well, see, I had two weekends off, and it felt like a year. During that time my new Little Mark III arrived, along with some other goodies. I'm dying to play a gig with it. I'll just be taking my Markbass 151P cab. First time I could do that since I didn't have a separate head before. The only other separate bass head I've owned was my old Peavey Mark IV, way back. This will be interesting. I also get to use my new gold-colored braided cord, heh, heh.
So...wouldn't ya know it's a 50/50 chance of rain and we're outdoors, although under a roof, but the guy may cancel. But maybe NOT. I'm so ready to gig!!!

And the best part, my new LMIII and 151P are a super combination. The 15" allowed me to do more than the 12" in my 121H combo---I mean A LOT MORE! I could even turn the VPF filter (which I normally don't use much) to noon and play hard at high volume. That plus a little tweaking with the rest of the eq and I got a tone that cut through all night, AND had plenty of bottom. We were at pretty high volume, too, overall. I think that anyone who says the 151P doesn't have enough bottom hasn't tried putting enough through it. I got all the bottom I wanted, and thumped through all the old-scoll tunes just fine. Absolutely amazing for being outdoors with nothing behind the cab. I didn't even run through the PA, and kept up all night. I was at the limit, though. But, man, what a tone with my Jazz and Chromes.
Well, they want us back today from 3-6. We're already booked from 7-11 across town, so we'll have to bump that time up a bit if they'll allow. Didn't expect all this, but I'm ecstatic about it. More playing time, woohoo!! And more money!!
Gotta run, time to start getting ready. Hope all ya'll are having some good gigs, too.
Cheers.

I'm needing a bigger rig, or at least something modular that can be more than just one 15. I see all these tens around (they're everywhere) but, as you might guess, I'm still a fifteen man. Thinking about a 2x15 cab, and enough watts to drive the pi$$ out of them. |

I put the 15 in a chair this time to get it up some, but that didn't carry as well since it didn't resonate on the deck as much. At the second gig I left it on the wooden floor, although space was so tight that I was standing right over it. But, I was listening for the thump, not the highs. At least I had a wall behind it this time so that the rear port could do its thing.
300w and 115 ain't bad. I will be better off with two 15s, though, I think. But, it's nice to know I can squeeze by this way for now. The 112 just can't keep up with the 115 without clanking. That 15 never complained about anything I tried to do. Tough, it is.
Fun? Oh yes indeed, I had a great weekend playing. This is a fun band (one of three I'm working with). But, even when we played a tune I wasn't so into, I still had a great time grooving, enjoying my equipment. What a difference it makes when you sound good to yourself, especially when it comes to being able to hear yourself. One thing that was amazing was how I got a really old school sound from a modern Jazz bass with maple fingerboard (and Chromes) and a modern hifi rig. I must say I had plenty of thump, and then I could get a more modern sound when needed. The only caveat in the system is the piezo tweeter in that cab. But, that cab is the smallest, lightest cab I'm willing to deal with. The New York series is smaller, but not lighter, so I think I got thte right one. And I'm sticking with 15s (I hear ya, "OldFart").
Thanks for readin', ya'll. Cheers.
