Gig promoter attacks me and my girlfriend (slightly long post)

Sign in to disble this ad
So we had this gig last night put on by this production company. We felt kinda sketchy about it, because it's one of those shows where bands call themselves *metal* (for a lack of better words) who wear cowboy hats and brings people that look liek they gathered them from the community post office or town hall or something like that. We play, people like us. They even ask us to play another song. The show continues, it gets lame. Me and my girlfriend go outside. She has some liquor on her. The promoter comes out to confront my gf about the alcohol. But he doesnt talk to her. He charges at her pretty much and gets a hold of her. My girlfriend is scared, so she kicks him to get him off her. He then grabbed her by the hair and yelled in her face "You're a ****ing slut!" That's when i got in the middle. Then this promoter punches me in the face, drags me to a tree and chokes me. We called the cops, but they didnt do ****. This promoter is in his 30's, we're 17 btw.

I'd personally not stop bothering the cops till they do something. and if they don't do anything then id bring a few buds to his house and start smashing his car. thats insane. he needs some kind of punishment and I'm thinking a few broken windows, dents, and smashed headlights is a perfect way.

If you have witnesses to the incident, keep at the police about it.

Revenge will just get you in trouble, and make it look like he was in the right in the first place. He'll tell the police that you started the whole thing, make up some story, and they'll believe him, and he'll get away with it all.
That's not the result you want.

I'm surprised the cops did nothing about a guy attacking a teen girl.

I agree. i think the revenge route isnt the greatest idea. We have witnesses, the other guys in my band were right there. I kinda do want to persue with the cops. I want something to be done.

Do you have any plans? theres not much left if you don't want to legally pursue him or get revenge on him.

I think there's more to this story than is being told, but

none the less

there's never an excuse for violence.

What have your/your gfs parents said about this? If it was my son or daughter I'd want to know more and possibly pursue legal action.

Before this turns into a police bashing, remember we only have this persons side of the story. I am not accusing the OP of this, but people are really good about leaving out important details. I know the kids are 17, but it still sounds like misdemeanor assault and the police generally cannot arrest for a misdemeanor that was not committed in their presence. People want help from law enforcemnet on their terms, and usually become angry or condescending when faced with the reality of the restrictions the police have to work under. No the police are not perfect and make mistakes, I know.

Sounds like a case for "Judge Judy." Unfortunately, the club owner freaked out because you're 17 and had liquor in his place. His fear of being shut down may have clouded his judgement, as his actions were way out of line. Sorry you had to go through that.

No sympathy here. If you are 17 I am assuming that your girlfriend is'nt 21 yet either. So your girlfriend gets into a show underage (with your band or she probably could'nt get in otherwise) and brings her own liquor in. Double disrespect to the owner of the club. While I don't agree with the club owner using force against you I can understand why he felt that way. You and your girlfriend put his business investment on the line and put him at risk for legal action.
And we are supposed to believe that a club owner attacked 2 minors with witnesses and the police did nothing about it? I am calling B.S. on this one, that cant be the whole story.

well here's one for you.....a guy drove his pickup onto the boulevard in front of my neighbors house, after he had just spent a lot of time and effort landscaping it.....i said something like hey,do ya mind, after which he launched into a curse streamed tirade at me,to which i replied with a few curses of my own.....

at some point he said he would shoot me with a rifle he had in his truck, and i called the cops.....after being on hold on 911 for a few minutes and explained multiple times to a dimwitted dispatcher, cops were finally sent.....

the guy was summoned to the front door of the house across the street, where he was installing some fixtures and admitted to the cops that indeed he had threatened to shoot me,but there was no gun in his truck..... and after placing him in handcuffs and talking to him in the patrol car, they let him go.....

when i asked the cops what gives, and mentioned to them that if it had been me who did the threatening i'd be on my way to the lock-up,......the cop agreed and said, and i quote "yeah, but you're an intimidating looking guy"....i was 56 at the time and the guy was at least ten years younger and a head taller....

and i have not left out any details that would make my case any stronger......i have lived on this street in the house i own and have paid taxes on for 22 years.....

The promoter is gonna say he was dealing with a liquored up teenage girl, and you have verified this. The promoter had underage drinking and was trying to deal with this unlawful situation that could cost him dearly if it was proven that he condoned it. If you girlfriend was totally without fault, that is, other than putting the venue owner at risk for drinking underage in his establishment, you have an uphill battle to prove he acted inappropriately. Anyone have any scars? Medical bills?

Exactly. I think you should be happy that you and/or your girlfriend did'nt go to jail and leave it at that. I spent the night in jail before and I would gladly take a punch in the face to stay out.

liquor laws in canada vary from 18-19 years....while tho op was definitely in the wrong the fact that the club guy assaulted his gf is cause for alarm..... here you can get arrested for defending your property,firearms/weapons are not permitted for home defense, and honest citizens who defend themselves from being robbed often find themselves facing stiffer sanctions than the perpetrators

^ This. And wasn't it mentioned that she kicked him first?

You and your girlfriend should file a suit against him and his business. He'll be on his knees in no time. Age or being underage doesn't hold up to his assaulting and battering you two.
