Gig story (very short one) :)

So I get a call from a bass player aquaintance I have 2 days ago asking if I could cover for him today on a gig he can't do because he forgot he booked a cruise for the same day with some girl. It's the first gig this band is playing so he's really in a hole and offers to pay me money on top of what they'd be making. I accept. Learn a few tunes. Have a couple of conversations and emails with the other guys (never met them), and for no really good reason - start to get a not so great vibe. I told them not to call my cellphone as I don't use it, and of course they leave all their messages there. No big deal - they both start with the same number and it's easy to confuse.

Anyway - I get a call earlier today. Do I have an extra guitar cable? Sure, but I'm beginninng to think my gut was on the money. An hour before I'm about to leave I get another call. Do I know any drummers who can do the gig? Their drummer had big fight with his G-friend and got into some kind of trouble with the cops. He detained in another state.

I think they have the greatest first gig on record.

I'm going out to have a nice dinner with my lady this afternoon.

Heh.

Projects like that are always entertaining - if you are on the outside.

I once auditioned for a band. Drummer was like an hour late, and practice was at his house. Because I liked the music, I stuck around to see what would happen. After the drummer arrived, and we got going, I discovered that he was actually pretty atrocious - bad time across the board, I suppose.

I told them not to call me, I'd call them.

I doubt they're still waiting.
