GO GO Dancer

Back in the late 60s, one of the better bands that I had was playing at a City Department's Christmas party. Nice room with a stage. Not long after we started playing, a very pretty girl that was in attendance, came up to me and said that she LOVED to dance and asked if it would be OK for her to dance on the stage with us. In addition to be very pretty, she had on a mini-skirt, black hose and go-go boots! Can you say no brainer? So she proceeded to dance on stage with the band. A real attention getter since you was a great dancer. This was in the days that you could get mic stands with chrome bases. Very reflective, just like a mirror. Are you gettin' my drift? So as an added highlight, we, the 15-16 year old band member guys, discovered that when she danced near our mic stands - well - like I said, the stand base was like a mirror. Naughty boys that we were, each of us wanted her to stand and dance by our mic stand. Imagine that. After that gig, she asked if she could dance at all of gigs for free. Another no brainer. So, for a couple of years, we had our own sexy go-go dancer and personal "views" of her dancing. Ah, the good ole days.

Hi.

And this particular flash from the past happened to catch Your attention just this moment...

I wish I had stories like that to remember, but sadly I don't. I was hell bent on originals so we didn't gig .

Thanks for sharing.

Best of luck with that. I haven't seen any since the late 60s. The ones that I had were destroyed in a house fire. I just hope that you find the real reflective ones.

This past summer I went to a Gooferman show a local pub/music venue (Hopmonk in Sebastopol). They had cages on pedestals on each side of the stage with stunning and scantily dressed women dancing within...

...I gotta tell ya, it took their show to a whole new dimension.

Edit: This is from a Gooferman show last year at the DNA in SF... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PbeUCKEAYnY

I once played in a 10 piece Caribbean band - sounds cheesy but it was good fun and we played some great rooms. The flautist/guitarist was a great old Filipino guy in his 60s who also taught guitar at the bachelor of music - jazz course at a well regarded local university.

One night we were playing at the Hyatt ballroom. Decor-wise, the hotel was an 80's masterpiece and the dance floor was shiny and black, like heavily tinted glass.

We were playing Guantanamera, as you do, and the old guitarist sidles up to me, nods towards the dance in front of a particular lady and sings quietly in my ear "Guantanamera, I can see her **** in the mirror".

I wet my pants.

Today I saw a play on the life of Hank Williams... they had a crack band on stage the whole time... played 25 songs... and had a hot waitress dancing behind a cafe counter the whole time!

A while back we were doing a 8 piece electro/funk band & we had 3 lead female singers- all as cute as pie!!! So we had a nice view from behind ANYWAY. But one night -on the 1st song one of the girls split her tight fitting 'pant-suit' right over the ass!!!! Iwas & am married to one of the other singers- so I kept a secret view of preceedings, but our drummerr/percussionist's eye's wer just about popping outta his head all nite :-) - he liked her anyway- so this was almost too much for him. ha ha!!

Now that's a cool set-up rodl2005. Watching 3 nice females with one being your wife. Nice gig.

ooooooo note to self: Don't stand near reflective surfaces when wearing skirts. *checks all the mic bases*

Guys, if you can't find those shiny stands, they do sell chrome spray paint... Try it out on a discard first, but I'll be it'd be shiny enough.

Girls......watch where you stand for the desired effect. LOL

I guess one advantage of being a woman is that a cute guy dancing isn't going to distract me so much I'd mess up playing..I've seen seasoned peeps distracted by a cute woman dancing though LOL

Note to self - Don't tell Susan your dirty little secrets - she'll blab to everyone.

BTW - I checked out your sites - cool stuff. Animal lover myself. I also noticed that you guys don't have chrome mic stands. Oh well, too bad.

note to women front singers:

Always check your stage clothing for transparency under bright foot lights. I have done gigs with several women whose dresses turned transparent, giving the rhythm section a show of their own....

It occurred to me that I have several pics posted on the Unofficial Acoustic Control Corporation's forum of various things ranging from pets, guitars, wife, bands, beach, etc. Upon closer examination, I discovered that one of the three pics posted of my circa 1964 band, The Surfin Birds, indeed shows my chrome mic stand. You can clearly see the reflection of my pants etc. - just like a mirror as previously stated. If you'd care to view, go here - http://oren-hudson.u.yuku.com/gallery - then click slide show beside the pic of my dog Canella. You may enjoy all of the pics, but the one I'm alluding to is pic #22. Now you can get a visual of the chrome mic stand that you're looking for, or looking AT. If you take a look, ENJOY.

Do you have any pics of the go-go dancer? This is such a great and educational thread...

Sorry rust preacher - no pic with Katrina in it that I've seen in a long time. If I ever run across one, I'll be happy to share. I surely wouldn't want in any way to limit your educational experience here.

Oren-Thanks for the compliments I'm actually playing with another group also now, but can't figure out how to edit my sig And though I may tell your secrets.......I'm also the one who always ends up bringing the spare widget that you'll end up breaking and needing LOL

oooooo Good tip on the spotlights thing. Played only one gig with stage lights besides our little clamp flood lights so never worried about that.... But hey my bass covers some of the goodies soooo if all they see is an outline have at it LOL.

One of my groups had a bellydancer showing up at the duo's gig . She could dance...... but it wasn't always appropriate to the song. Not to mention I wanna see the band not one person dancing. Was amusing when the inebriated guys tried to join her though......
