I play in a praise band (praise "team" we call it for some reason) as many of you here do. We use in-ear monitors...kind of an archaic system IMO...AVIOM. It's the only way I can hear what I play b/c they notoriously turn the bass down in the house mix so that no human can hear it haha
so I guess 6-8 mo ago I was on stage between songs & during announcements (before the sermon) and I hear this voice softly whispering my name:
"Michael", the voice says.
I look around. The guitarist is staring straight ahead. The pianist is looking down.
"Michael."
The worship leader has his back to me. What's going on?
"MICHAEL", still a whisper but louder this time.
I'm looking around casually but getting kind of nervous...
It finally occurs to me that it's coming from the AVIOM - duh. I wonder why I didn't think of that sooner? I look all the way across the sanctuary at the sound guy, "Kevin". We make eye contact. He says in my AVIOM "yes, you! please tell Chris (worship leader) that he's got his mic turned off on his belt!"
haha! so I felt really silly, but for about 10 seconds I considered the possibility that God was actually talking to me, audibly IN MY HEAD. haha!
That probably isn't as good of a story as I think it is, but I chuckle every time I think about it.
