God wants me to play bass...

Something rather strange happened today....
I used to be a guitarist, and I would shred and play crazy hard songs to try to get my dad to buy me a new guitar, but he never would because "he wasn't sure I would stick with it."
But I'm borrowing a bass (like it better than g****r) and played the bass line of 7 Nation Army for him and today he said that he would buy me a new bass because I'm so good at it.
Cool, right?

Borrow a bass, and the first song you play is White Stripes??

Someone needs to lend this boy a Jaco album.

Hi,

the bass line in Seven Nation Army is an electroacoustic guitar played through an octave pedal.

Dude, I have tons of Jaco albums. I've been listening to Jaco for 2 years. One of my friends told me me to play 7 Nation Army so I tried it out and my dad heard me playing it. Jazz is my no.1 favorite kind of music.

TB has turned into a punishment more than a welcome mat for new players lighten up guys.

I play this song with my band, and its one of the best songs we do. If you need any help picking a bass, etc., PM me. Not all of us are grumpy old farts.

The White Stripes don't have a bass player. You can't play a song's bassline if it never had one.

Having never listened to the white stripes I have to ask a question, do they shred and do they have crazy hard songs? Oh god this amuses me to no end.

Dude. I don't care WHAT anyone else says. Seven Nation Army is freaking SWEET, sounds freaking SWEET on bass, and is a lot of fun to play!

Welcome to the good side, btw.

Hey - welcome to bass. I was only playing acoustic guitar for a year or so when I had the opportunity to play bass through a big rig. That tone caught me and I've been playing bass ever since - and that was almost 20 years ago. Hope you stick with it and post over in the basses section if you want advice on what to get.

Peace!

I disagree with this far beyond what the rules of this forum will allow.

Leave it to a 16yo to act the most mature here.

What's up with people lately. Autumn depression?

BassClef 2010, welcome to TB from me too.

LOL.... I need a flow chart to point out how much of a sour-grape-statement that is.

If a song doesn't have a bassline, create one over it.
And a bass is not restricted to play just basslines either.
ANY piece of music can be played with any instrument.

No kidding, man.

BassClef 2010--God doesn't get paid the big bucks for nothing! That's rad of your old man. If you're into the idea of playing bass, go for it!

I got a bootleg lying around of some yahoo who's last name was Redd or something, who thought it'd be funny to rerecord "White Blood Cells" with bass lines, and post all songs on line. I think I got all the songs, but I never actually listened to the end result

But if you play a line on bass, does that line not become a bass line ?
