A good reason to play fingerstyle ...

Sign in to disble this ad
So up until about 18 months ago, I always used a pick. I now play finger style 90% of the time but always have a pick in my pocket ... and I'm always losing them.

A while ago, my dryer went on the fritz ... took out the main drum, and found all my picks along with various trinkets that fell out of my kids' pcokets (see below) ...

I now have a suppply of really clean picks!

Is there more cash value in coins or picks there?

You know, I've always wondered where picks went. I've probably bought a few hundred in my life and right now I know where about 10 of them are.

Maybe I should take apart my dryer.

Good thing you're not a slap player. It would have been REALLY creepy to find a bunch of thumbs in there too!

No way man... the reason your dryer went on the fritz is probably because you were putting those Canadian coins in it...

I have the bad habit of stacking stuff on my printer at home... papers, pencils, picks, books... Well, I had some problems with a couple things coming out all messed up... Then I found I had accidentally run a couple picks through it... oops.

Tortex pick are almost useless once they've gone through the dryer. They get so slick you can't even hold them.

I don't have that problem. The only time I use a pick is when I drop my fingers.

Well, they were not in the drum that spins ... somehow all that stuff fell below the drum into the cabinet below. With the drum sealed, I'm still not sure how it falls through, but the new dryer has a little drawer built into so you can clear stuff out.

I'll assume it was a bass or guitar player who first came up with the idea!

Talking about dryers (or washers) in a bass related context, Geddy Lee's roadies must totally hate hauling his "gear: ...

Haha ... I almost lost my thumbs taking the stupid dryer apart. I'm much better at fixing and setting up basses!

Well based on the last time I bought picks, that picture represents a good $10 (U.S.) worth of picks, at least. They have gotten really spendy.

But if you think that's bad... my wife and one of my daughters both smoke and I'm pulling those damn cigarette lighters out of the wash machine all the time. Empty your pockets first, please!

I clean my pockets out before washing pants. Never been a problem.

Also, those picks look really thin for bass.

Good to see that Canadian currency in there LOL
That Toonie gave it away instantly.

Yeah I started off playing with a pick, after a couple months I threw them away and using my fingers exclusivly. Haven't looked back since

why do you have so many paperclips in your pockets???

lol i play with a pick about 10% of the time, and 90% of the reason is because it looks cool. the other 10% is because it sounds good when there isn't anything but the drums and bass.
the only reason i started was because i wanted to use one on a whim, and my friend let me use one that i really ended up liking. so now i only have that pick, and i keep it in my case. if i lose it i probably won't play pick for a while.

I play about 65% of the time with a pick. I keep several in my jeans' penny pocket. When I put on a new pair of pants, I transfer all the stuff from the dirty pair of pants' pockets.

I prefer the tone and control of my fingers but when speed gets insane (punk and crazy timing metalcore stuff) I will use a pick. Keep trying to do Maiden stuff with my fingers and working on the speed!
