"no, that's not necessary, sir".
I'm not much of a fan of country, but this one "United Breaks Guitars" is pretty funny. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5YGc4zOqozo | He was swabbing for explosives. That's all they swab for, even though they might say otherwise (chemicals harmful to aviation is our response if asked).

When he returned it to me, the tremolo and wood surrounding out was completely torn out. I guess someone must have been jumping on the whammy bar or something - don't know how you break the body itself!
My friend shrugged and said "yeah, it kinda broke - you can probably fix it". I salvaged it for parts, and never leant him a guitar again. (oddly, he leant me a guitar many years later - not b/c I needed one, but just b/c I guess he knew it was better in my care than left in a storage unit. I returned it 6 months later with new strings, and a full setup. I think I played it twice.)

BTW, you are not alone in hassles with things airport and flight related with guitars... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5YGc4zOqozo
(oop, saw it was already posted, oh well....it's funny and sad enough to watch again...)
You better believe there is some serious CYA that is gonna happen on behalf of the Airport security types...get a lawyer.
