Established Raleigh-area pro bassist with vocals available for interesting and productive side project. Would prefer a combination of originals and covers. Particularly fond of older, harder music, but must be melodic. Almost anything from the late 60s or the 70s works for me, as will some stuff from the 80s. No screamers or growlers.
I have years of experience on stage, in the studio, etc. I write a wide range of music, from pop rock to hard rock to heavy. Also like playing rock standards, deep cuts and modern hits then doing unexpected rearrangements of them. I'm looking for musicians who have imagination and can think outside the box. That's the way I play, in a very melodic, powerful manner that leaves the original idea in the dust and grows it in an interesting direction. If we decide to do another band's song, I expect you'd only use the original version for a road map then we'd put our collective spin on it. I have no interest in doing pure covers of anything. If you don't hear anything other than what the other band did with a given song, then we won't fit together well.
The key for me is productivity. I learn quick and want to play with people who want to work on music aggressively. I want to add a few songs to the set every week. They don't have to be perfect from the start, but I want to make progress on everything every week. My goal would be to have close to 25-30 songs in around 90 days.
Depending upon what type of material we end up playing, I'm open to jamming any local venue. I will walk into an existing band with an opening if you're doing something that catches my ear. Or I'm open to doing a startup. Once again, the keys for me are doing something fun and interesting, playing with people who are committed and being productive.
As I mentioned in the opening line, this is a side project for me. I play in an established local band, but need to spread my wings a little bit. Feeling a bit stale in my current situation and need something to reinvigorate me. I'm not looking to get signed and go on tour. I just want to play music in the area, be productive and have fun. I have a family and a mortgage, so I don't have any unrealistic expectations. I just want to rock. My preference would be to practice Saturday mornings if that works for everyone, and maybe an occasional weeknight. Raleigh area is best for me.
I would also like to play with people that have a certain degree of "rock cache". You don't have to look like a roadie for Guns and Roses, but it would be nice if you actually had a sense of style and presented yourself as a musician rather than an accountant or landscaper. Nothing against folks in those professions, I just believe shows are more interesting if the band looks like a band.
A few things I won't deal with: drunkeness, hard drugs, not doing homework, inattentiveness, lack of commitment. I also expect active, enthusiastic communication between all members. Responding to texts, emails and phone calls is of paramount importance.
So, here's your opportunity to peak my curiosity. Respond with artists/songs you'd like to cover, some of your personal favorites, who you sound like, what your goals are, what you'd like to accomplish, where you'd like to play, etc. Sell me on your concept/idea. Bonus points if you can identify the bassist in the photo (if so, that means we may be able to have a civil discussion about good music).
