Great Gig - *that* feeling- got it?

Did my first gig with my new funk band, Funkranomicon, last night.
Great musicians, collaborative and dynamic and fun, makes playing really a treat. We got the bootys shaking, playing a mix of originals and old school covers. I haven't mastered the art of taking pics while playing, so no pics for now...

The band played great.
The crowd was digging it.
My new rig sounded awesome, and I am loving the sounds of the basses I gigged through it (the fretless Ibanez Gary Willis and the ATK - hey, just realized it was an Ibby night for me! )

I am feeling that "great gig last night" feeling.

If you can relate, and had one recently, testify brothers and sisters!

Two nights ago, what could have been a mediocre gig turned into a canceled gig, which then turned into our best gig yet.

We were supposed to play a bar with a big stage and great sound system. But it's cold and the bar is far from campus - there wouldn't have been anybody there. Lo and behold, we arrive and the bar is closed for construction. The bar owner explained to us that the manager he hired didn't do his job to tell us about the closing.

So we're ready to leave, and we get a call from the bar owner that he wants us to play his second venue, which is a restaurant much closer to campus. It was a tight space but it was our biggest turnout yet (fourth gig as a band) and IMO the best we've played yet.

And get this - the band we were opening for didn't set a cover charge, but the bar owner gave us a wad of cash anyway.

An okay night turned into a bad night turned into a great night.

my band played a county fair in NY this summer and afterwards we had people coming up to us asking for cds, we bought 50 and left with maybe 2 or 3 - we later found out the local paper dug us and wanted to write an article reviewing our album and gig. It was a pretty sweet feeling..

here's the music for anyone wondering.

House of Blues show. It went perfect.

I think the fact right before the show I was feeling like nobody appreciated rock reggae, and then suddenly; I noticed the f*cking huge crowd that I wasn't prepared for (mentally, of course). I like to consider that late night the best one of my life.

My rock cover band played a christmas party at my university on last wednesday. Crowded, acoutistics were not too good, the sound guy was 'sourced in' (did not know the PA), and some other issues.
We had a some alcoholic presents prepared for the audience, along with rocking out in santa costumes for a certain part of the 2 hr set, and the audience digged it.
There was some nice pogo and even a crowdsurfer going on during the encore. We had lots of fun.

I got *that* feeling this weekend too. I currently play with 3 bands. Metal, hard rock and cover. The metal band I play with scheduled a show this Friday night with 3 other bands. Two of the bands canceled and I had my doubts about how the show would go. We found a third act and we actually had a good turnout and the crowd loved the music. When you get that good of crowd response and they shout "one more song" when your done you get *that* feeling for sure.

Then the hard rock band I play with (and the band I care about the most) came over my place for rehearsal today after not playing together since sometime in September and went nearly perfect. There is where *that* feeling comes in. We have a show this Friday and now we are confident we will have a great show. Just in case your wondering why hasn't this band rehearsed since September its because they only like to play out every other month for some reason. Also the singer and the guitarist which are the original members of the band were having trouble getting along but have now made up. (again)

Great weekend for me musically.

Same night as you brutha, my band had magic in the air. We had around 8 birthdays in the club, lock step air tightness on the stage, lots of dance floor action all night. Still riding that wave Monday morning.

Happened this past weekend … and at a most unusual gig!

It was at an art gallery premier, for artist George Hunt, who specializes in primitive art style depictions of old blues artist and themes. A very cool up-scale setting including a good crowd mix of who’s who along with wine and Hors d'Oeuvres the whole nine yards! Thing was we had to work at acoustic Jazz trio volume levels and low and behold it worked out great! Came away with a good feeling that we can work well in environments from these low-volume settings to big stages, and still pull off a crowd pleasing and convincing show …

Had a great gig this past Friday night at a local bar-it was our 3rd gig there, and the crowd was SO supportive, constantly cheering and clapping, and dancing on the practically non-existent dance floor. It IS a great feeling when you say "good night" and you are overpowered by requests for an "encore." We did it and it felt great.

Great Gig at the Wrong Time

Had a great gig this weekend, at a place that loved us, and folks that responded, and the place was packed, all night - start to finish, and they want us back......Just when we thought that this was our next to last gig, due to lack of bar management/establishment interest, this happens.

Do I sound like a whiney weiner? Well maybe.

Now what???? Guess we'll keep it going, or is this just prolonging the pain...

Not long ago I played a gig at this little hole in the wall bar, I didn't expect it to be anything major. Much to my surprise we apparently had A LOT of fans in that area and packed the place. We played an awesome set and even busted out some new material for the first time. The whole band sounded great, everyone was dancing and they started one of the most insane pits I've ever seen. The whole thing went over so well that the owner came over as soon as we were done and booked us for two more headlining gigs in a month. Even the grumpy old sound guy had a lot of very nice complements for us despite the fact that he apparently "hates everything" which is a direct quote from the bar tender.

But hands down the best reaction we got was from these girls that had been standing in the front row who met us after the show and invited us back to their hotel room. So we all spent the night getting wasted in the hot tub in this swanky hotel room and then each of us following one of the girls back to their beds. We totally trashed the room, ran up a huge bill and everyone woke up with a gorgeous girl next to them.

I've never felt like more of a rock star, and I've still got that "great gig" feeling from that night.
