guitards strike again in Kansas City

here's the best quote

I'm looking for another guitarist, a drummer, a singer, and least importantly, a bassist. I would prefer if the guitarist could solo, it's fun to have 2 lead guitarists. If you can sweep, you're in automatically, then teach me to sweep so we can make epic sweep harmonies (the most epic out of any harmony).

***?

in case you were wondering it's impossible to find a decent band to play with in KC these days. I've been looking for months, and all you can find is things like this

Yeah, I play a little bass too. I could tell what you were doing there. You were playing some major and minor scales. I was watching your hands.

Keep trying. I finally found one. It was a wholly new sound for me. Keep your options open. I've been playing punk and metal bands and now I'm in what our drummer calls an indie dance powerpop band. We sound amazing.

Get a grip - y'all are taking this w-a-y too seriously! There are some incredible players/groups in KC (and yes, I live in the general metro area). Whoever wrote the Craigslist ad is obviously very young and has little experience (naive?). There's plenty of folks in Cowtown of all ages, styles, genres, and proficiency levels. When I hear/witness a complaint that there are no good players in a fair sized city - it usually translates into the complainer is young and less experienced (naive?). IF one is up to the task - there are many methods and sources for finding other like-minded players on one's own skill level...but sitting on your tail at home isn't going to find 'em

i guess i can see where youre coming from on this. the problem isnt the quantity of bands rather the quality. if i wanted to be ina country cover band i could (not that there is anything wrong with that, just not for me.) or a band that sounfs like nickelback(there is a lot wrong with that.) Maybe what I mean to say is that there isn'tanyone making the music that I want to play (rock, indie, metal (as in opeth, isis, buried inside, etc).

And to be honest I think this city has more bass players than bands available. I've talked to some friends who play asking them if there is anything open they hear of to let me know, and my response has been " you're the 3rd guy who's asked me this, but okay." Our craigslist is full of bass players looking for bands who don't suck.

Count me in that group also. The only regular work I get these days is solo jazz guitar. Restaurants and private parties.

He sounds like an intelegent guy. Once he learns how important Bass really is (even in metal! ) then I think he'd be great.

I loved the CL post. I miss being young and dumb and way too full of one's self. Now I'm just old and cranky, and just full of, well I'd rather not say. Funny stuff indeed.

ha ha ha!! That was indeed an spic post for sure. I can also remember thinking that being the middle of something 'special' musically would change my life and others around me. It would seem that I also miss that naive way of thinking a bit too.

Well...the kid that posted the ad is quite a little band nazi. I wonder how many bands he will go through before he learns to treat people decently?

One does need to find other ways to locate musicians other than Craig's List, for sure. I almost never see anything interesting in there. All of my best opportunities have come from attending jams and networking, face-to-face.

Also...as an aside...FYI...Fort Worth is Cowtown. *The* Cowtown. When Bob Wills sang "Big Balls in Cowtown", he wasn't singing about KC.

Cherie

im pretty sure that the guy just has a good sense of humor, i mean, he lists all kinds of metal bands and then ends with Hannah Montana, so it would seem like "least importantly" is just a play on the stereotypical bass player image rather than his opinion.

just sayin'

He actually sounds a little creepy. The bass comment is just one of many problems as far as I'm concerned. That Hannah Montana comment doesn't exactly give him a whole lot of credibility, either. He's just too immature to know what he is doing, but that observation could apply to many people.
