…and he insults all real guitar players who *do* use theory. What a dip.

Guitar does not use music theory. Neither do a lot of guitarists people who own them....

You're right, they use what I call Music Fact.

They try to tell you it's a fact they're better than you at X, because they just are, dude.

Well, I guess by the end of the school year, he's going to feel REALLY embarrassed about what he said on the first day. Just make sure that you don't let him leave for summer vacation without reminding him. Be a real shame to waste a good embarrassing moment.

Kinda like saying "Yeah I use computers, but I don't really use electricity"

He probably doesn't. He uses "power chord" and "minor scale."

Throw in "drop d" and this list is complete.

Dude, your "shift" key and punctuation keys are broken...

I vaguely recall the first day of Music Theory 101. I imagine I said something equally as stupid then. ;-)

Dear heavens, my thoughts exactly. I had to read that three times before I understood it, and by then both the post and the story were so dull that it didn't seem funny.

Just as bad as my mate, who uses 'lol' in place of any punctuation mark. Makes me cringe at the fact that I never paid attention at school but still know basic stuff like that. Not that everyone should have perfect grammar and punctuation, but a comma or two would certainly work wonders.

On topic, no instrumentalist needs music theory to play music. Though they'll need to to create music. That said, I know minimal music theory and I only play my own songs. So basically, I don't know what I'm saying.

You know it could just be true.
I played with a guy who owned a guitar that thought key was only an option.
If he happened to somehow fall into it.

It's like saying, "I write in english, but I don't use grammar."
