Have you ever had GAS for...

Sign in to disble this ad
a bass that you know you could never ever afford? Besides a Lotto win of course?

Tell me about them!

My GAS is for one of these

Erm... by the way, I'm only assuming that this is totally out of my price range - does anyone know how much this bass would retail for?

If you go by the MSRP listed its 4209.00 euros thats pretty close to the British pound I do believe.

But to answer your question yes every bass I've ever GASses for has been out of my price range: the exact bass you mentioned and various customs by various luthiers

Wow. In that case, definitely out of my price range. But she's so pretty!

I know I sound stupid, but what does "GAS" actually stand for? I know the meaning I believe, but not the 3 letters

The Ritter Jupiter 6 in Piano Finish is the #1 bass which I cannot afford. The EURO exchange puts it somewhere between the $8000-$9000 range. (There's a used one for $6000 in the TB classifieds now, although its finish is Futura instead of Piano. I have no bass funds available - not even $6K for the used one.)

Don't buy a new one. I picked up an '88 Thumb NT 4-string from the classifieds here for $1300. That's from back when they were still hand made and used Bubinga and Wenge. My '93 Fortress also came from the TB classifieds and it's an absolute killer at less than $700.
I never (well, hardly ever) buy anything new.

Can't say I've ever been one to lust after the super-high end of anything...cars, cameras, stereos, etc. Same with basses. I know I will still be the same mediocre player whether I'm playing a $6000 Ritter or a $200 Squier.

Although I wouldn't turn down a MIA Fender or Lakland, anything else above that level would just be held onto long enough to sell it at a profit.

That Warwick looks nice. Did they rework the thumb body a little bit? It looks smaller. A consolation might be the Corvette $$ five string in Nirvana black. That's what I have and I have to tell you it is an amazing bass. Sustain for days. Super woody lows and that warwick growl all. Not to mention the 3-way humbuckers make it very versatile tone wise.

I recently caught a glance of one of the Fender Custom Tele Basses:

I sort of fell in love, but as is the usual case though - there's a massive list of things that I'd spend £3800 ($6000) on before I spent it on a bass. A few guys have built them out of Squires on here, so I might give that a shot. It's a lovely piece of kit though, regardless.

Yeah totally agree with buying used. However that particular bass seems to be pretty rare in the nirvana black version. I guess that plus the nt plus the 5 strings bumps the price up nicely!

I have the corvette $$ 4 string. Absolutely stunning bass. Pretty much set me back my entire life savings! Would love a 5 string, maybe even a 6-er some day but not gonna happen for a very long time... Aw hey, if 4 strings was good enough for cliff, it's good enough for me
