So I've read a synopsis of Treme, the HBO series that starts this Sunday, and could relate to the storyline of a couple of backup band players, aka sidemen, who are depressed after a gig, that didn't go well and the money is short.
I've been there too often. The LA scene is about hype and pay to play. There are more promoters than musicians and most of them have zippo experience.
Made me think that in just 6 short years I can retire and hit the road again. Seems like there are places in the world where music cultures exist and are supported by their communities.
Treme is about New Orleans struggle to get back on its feet.
Heard some amazing tracks from a Budapest band the other night that someone recorded live in a pub.
