I've come to this conclusion after reading professionals here on the board several times has claimed that listening to music won't help you get better on the bass.

I think you might be confused why you do not want to have hearing problems... Its not because you cannot hear the music its because you don't want to have a massive ringing noise in your ear 24/7.

I completely agree OP, my wallpaper is also painted a mint-green hairdryer that reeks of fermented herring.

when i listen to music, it help me on the bass. i learned totally by ear with no lessons. now when i listen to music, i can hear a bass line and if its not real complicated, i can play it immediately on the bass, all those years transposing what my ears hear into where it goes on the fretboard have turned around, now i can hear something and i already know which strings and frets to play before i pickup the bass. i would like to see the wisecrackers do this ... johnny a. staind

i guess i am annoyed that the guy asks a question, and it seems a buncha (oops, is that a real word?) guys though it was fun to give you a bunch of crap. when i first came here, i was offered a moderator position. i declined cuz (oops bad grammar) i just wanted to be one of the guys on the forum. maybe i should seek the mod status and keep an eye on the wisecrackers have a great day gentleman. johnny a. staind 15+ million records sold.
