and here i was thinking bassists got no attention whatsoever...

just after playing at my school, i walked past a group of the younger generation to have the yell out "hey! it's that awesome bassist kid!"

at the time our rhythm guitarist was with me and to him they said "and that good guitarist kid!"

man it makes you feel big...glad to see people are appreciating the bass.

anyone else wanna post in their brushes of momentary fame?

Congrats. It's always nice to be recognized.

I play mandolin in one of my bands. We played a teacher retirement party on Thurs evening but our regular bassist was going to be late so I filled in for him on the first set. (I play bass in my other band) After the gig our guitar player said he thought I did a better job on the bass than our regular player.

At our final assembly at sixth form, my music class (+ a drummer and singer) played a cover of Sir Duke by Stevie Wonder which went down great. And I also did 2 songs with my main band.

The next day I went into my Sociology class with my guitarist and our teacher (who plays Sax) said to me, "James, I had no idea you were so talented on the bass!"

I was like this for the rest of the lesson:

After playing bass for about half a year, I showed up at my freinds house to jam with the guitarist of a local band (all of the band members are freinds of mine). After doing just a few tunes and sorta trading solos, the guitarist looks and me and says something along the lines of "well crap, now we gotta fire our real bassist.."

I get that at school sometimes. I'm one of the more 'respected' bassists at my school. I'm not an arrogant ass with my playing. Which people like apparently. And I teach people to play the bass at school for free and i do lessons covering the basics up to some hard stuff (3 finger galloping, tapping etc) so I'm more popular with that.

I remember this one time, our school had a talent show, so i played a set with my band, and two last-minute ones. One of them was just me on stage having a shred fest solo. Just me, playing bass for 6 minutes doing anything i could think of off the top of my head. I got a standing ovation (

) when i went to science, i got a standing ovation form everyone (even though i was 45 minutes late) , went into german class, and then got told to sit down. Hey, atleast my science class appreciates me

**** i wish half the people at my school knew how talented i was at bass...i have only played a few shows w/ my band but we have like 5 or 6 comming up this summer hopfuly ill get some major props from that

every time I jam with a group of musicians, I get : "not knocking our regular bassist, but It's really nice to jam with someone who can actually play!" I dont think this is because I'm actually that good at bass, but it seems I'm the only bassist in my area who isn't a beginner.

I've been known as "maraca guy" in both school jazz bands for a while, due to a performance last year when we played a latin jazz song, and I got to play maracas because this was the other bassist's song. the guy running the lights shone a spotlight on me for the whole song... Yeah, embarrasing. Everyone in the audience came up to me after the show and congradulated me on my maraca playing.. even more embarrasing...

My band played a show on the Jersey shore over memorial day weekend, so we were about 100miles away from our homes...day after the gig we are getting some lunch and had about 6-7 people come up and ask if we were the band and told us we were bada$$...that was awesome since we had never gotten recognized after a show or at all before...

maracas are nothing...in high school our wind ensemble would "march" for the town memorial day parade (we have nothing close to a marching band)....with me being the bass player..they would find something for me to do since it was a mandatory event....my senior year..I marched through town playing the triangle...people I knew who were watching literally doubled over laughing...
