Yesterday my newest side project band played a local cruise night. We had to supply sound, so it was up to me, since I own a sound system. I haven't had the chance to pull it out and fire it up in probably over 2 years, since my other main band has a different system we use, so I spent the day checking and double checking just to make sure I had everything I needed.
Found out one of the mains power amps kept going into 'protect' mode, so I brought another amp to patch in, extra cables - check.
CD player and iPod for in-between music - check.
Monitors... Uh-oh - 2 of my passives of 4 were at our rehearsal spot - called guitar player to have him bring one. (needed 3...) -check. Hmmm, what if he forgets? OK, better bring the powered monitor just in case... -check. Ooops, more cables needed to patch in.
Drum mics, stands, clips, stand for guitar mic -check.
Hey, here's a floor mat - and what if my drummer forgets a drum rug? Ok, put that in too... -check.
Count and pack all mic, speaker, power and TRS patch cables -check.
OK, now load my gear (I play synths (board and midi pedals) and bass in this band). Hmmm... should I bring my bass rig, or go direct from the preamp to the board? The monitors and system can certainly handle it, less stuff to bring.... eh, but I love my Berg ministack, and there's room.... OK. Bring the cabs....
Get to the gig, unload, and as I'm setting up... uh.... oh C$%* ! ....
.....forgot the Bass rack with preamp, tuner and wireless. Hmmm - good thing I just picked up a Tone Hammer Preamp/DI.... oh, wait... yeah, that's at home too.....
So I ran my bass into a Rolls $20 DI, straight into the board.
Gig went awesome, and people came up to tell me how great my bass sounded. LOL.
At least the beer was comped....
